Err... are you giving your opinion or did you actually watched the interview of Renault's Flavio Biatore? Both cars were running on empty and would have pitted at the same time - something Renault gambled to avoid so they decided to pit Alonso early.

If that is the purpose of the mirror, then it will not work for the F1 driver. That is because if the lollipop man has judged for himself that the car is clear to go, he will raise the lollipop along with the mirror attached to it.

Since micro-seconds and safety are critical during pit stops, you can't have 2 people making decisions on when to go or when not to go. Only the lollipop man must make that call.

    actually, he has a point.

Renault thought and gambled that the Ferrari was already at the edge of tire adhesion... and that even with a heavier fuel load they can overtake the Ferrari at the pits.

But right after Alonso pitted, Schumi pulled off a stunner of a lap... taking off 2 seconds from his previous laps.

To note also that the Ferrari pitted longer than the Renault.

Its just the nature of the circuit that makes overtaking almost impossible
Oh well, maybe Montoya then. In the 2003 Japanese GP, I remember him overtaking Barrichello in the 1st lap as if he weren't there, while either Kimi or Michael cannot overtake a slower Toyota driven by da Matta.
