More of a challenge now than in the first few races. At least he has to work for it instead of having the championship handed to him on a plate.

If only Lotus instructed RoGro to allow Kimi pass earlier than what they did. Anyway, it is what it is and hopefully Lotus and Kimi can keep this up.

Grosjean was equally as fast as Vettel during the middle lap and Vettel got the edge towards the end of the race. Can't wait to see Vettel and Kimi teaming-up.

Formula 1 Cameraman Hit in Face by Flying Tire During Race (Video)

As we’ve seen time and time again, being anywhere near a racetrack is dangerous. You don’t even have to be on the track, simply being a spectator near the track can put you in harms way. That’s something a Formula 1 cameraman is learning this morning as he was hit by a runaway tire during lap 9 of the race at Nürburgring in Germany.

The accident occurred during Mark Webber’s pit stop.

As Webber pulled away from his pit stall, his right rear tire was apparently not properly attached and rolled away as he pulled out of his box. Webber pulled over as soon as he realized he was missing a tire, but unfortunately as can be seen in the video, the cameraman appeared focused on his work and had absolutely zero idea the tire was coming his way.

It was a hefty blow to what looked to be near the head region of the cameraman which could have lead to a catastrophic injury. Thankfully though, reports from the local hospital say that while he’s expiring chest pains and has a concussion, he is expected to recover fully.

    Raikkonen to participate in YDT

Lotus has revealed that world champion Kimi Raikkonen will join Nicolas Prost and Davide Valsecchi in the forthcoming Young Driver Test at Silverstone.

The test - originally intended solely for young drivers, but adapted to allow race drivers to test Pirelli's new tyres - will see development driver Prost drive on Wednesday, followed by third driver Valsecchi on Thursday, with Raikkonen bringing the test to a conclusion on Friday.

Both Prost and Valsecchi (right) have previously driven the 2012 car - the E20 - at last year's Young Driver Test, whilst the Italian has also taken the wheel of the current model - the E21 - for half a day's running during pre-season testing.

"It's great timing for us to have this season's Young Driver Test scheduled in the middle of the year as it allows us to evaluate more of the new parts we have for the E21 as the championship battle intensifies," admitted Eric Boullier. "Remarkably, the UK has been having some notably good weather recently so we're looking forward to getting some good running across the three days.

"By running Nicolas and Davide we are giving them both invaluable experience and also gaining great feedback, as we've previously seen what they can do in the car and appreciate the valuable information they give us. It's also a fabulous second opportunity for all Formula 1 fans to come and see the teams in action at Silverstone."

"This will be an interesting test and we have a lot planned across the three days," added the team's trackside operations director, Alan Permane. "Obviously we want to give all three drivers the maximum track time possible as well as assessing the latest upgrades to the car.

"Our aim on the third day will be to help Pirelli understand the latest changes to their tyres at the same venue where they most notably had issues this season. For Nico and Davide it's an opportunity to learn and improve, while for the team it is a great opportunity to try to refine some of the latest developments we have for the E21.

"Kimi is also allowed to run, enabling him and other race drivers to test tyres for Pirelli. This will benefit both him and Romain by granting us a better understanding of these tyres before we head to the next event in Hungary."

Will Sauber finally bit the dust???

Unpaid Ferrari could switch off Sauber engines

Jul.15 (GMM) Embattled Sauber could have its engine power switched off permanently on the day after the forthcoming Hungarian Grand Prix.
Germany's Die Welt newspaper reports that the Swiss team is now EUR 15 million behind in its due payments to customer engine supplier Ferrari.
The report said Ferrari has issued Sauber an ultimatum: pay at least EUR 8 million of the overdue bill by 29 July - the first day of the 'summer break' - or have the supply of 2.4 litre V8 engines switched off.

Peter Sauber told the Swiss newspaper Sonntagsblick: "That's nonsense."

But if it does happen, the Hinwil based team - reportedly in debt to the tune of almost EUR 100 million - would be without engines for the Belgian grand prix in late August.

The situation is undoubtedly urgent, but all is not lost. Welt reports that Sauber is in talks with the Russian bank SMP, but that the deal requires the approval of president Vladimir Putin.

Sauber ensures long-term Formula 1 future

    15 July 2013

Sauber has secured its long-term future in Formula 1 by joining forces with three Russian companies. The agreements follow a period of major uncertainty for the outfit, which has been struggling to pay its suppliers in recent months.

The Investment Cooperation International Fund, the State Fund of Development of North-West Russian Federation and the National Institute of Aviation Technologies are the three companies involved, aiding Sauber technologically and financially.

"We are pleased to announce a partnership between the Investment Cooperation International Fund, the State Fund of Development of North-West Russian Federation and the National Institute of Aviation Technologies with Sauber Motorsport AG, incorporating the promotion of the sport Formula 1 in Russia and jointly developing high-technological solutions," read a statement issued by the outfit on Monday.

The deals place an emphasis on Russia's involvement in motorsport, with Sauber now set to guide 17-year-old Sergey Sirotkin, son of International Institute of Aviation Technologies head Oleg Sirotkin, towards a race seat for the 2014 campaign.

Having started out in karting five years ago, Sirotkin switched to single-seaters in 2010, claiming the European Formula Abarth title one year later before progressing to AutoGP and Italian F3. He now competes in the Formula Renault 3.5 category, where he has this season picked up a podium finish and two further points results.

"The partnership includes further activities for the promotion of the inaugural Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi in 2014 and attracting the talented young Russian generation towards motorsport," the Hinwil-based team went on to explain in its statement.

"In particular, a development programme will be set up for the Russian driver Sergey Sirotkin to prepare him as a racing driver for the team in 2014."
