FIA PUBLISHES 2013 ENTRY LIST, HRT ABSENT

The International Automobile Federation published the entry list for the 2013 Formula 1 season with the notable absence of HRT, suggesting that the Spanish team has brought the shutters down to its operations.

Thesan Capital, the owners of HRT, had said last month that they were in talks with a number of potential buyers to sell the team but appear to have failed to rope in an investor to keep the team alive.

Friday was set as the deadline for all teams to pay the entry fees for the participation in next year’s championship, with each to shell out a basic $500,000 along with $5,000 for every point scored in the 2012 season.

However, as the per new regulation, the constructors’ champions are required to cough up $6,000 for every point recorded, which means Red Bull had to pay $3.26 million.

HRT, which finished last in the standings with no points, was required to pay only the standard $500,000.

Michael Schumacher plans to be karting test driver in 2013 – Formula 1 news

Michael Schumacher, who has said goodbye to the sport, says that he is planning to be a karting test driver in 2013.

Schumacher took his first retirement back in 2006 and returned to Formula 1 in 2010 as Mercedes driver. Even though, he was completely outclassed by his teammate, Nico Rosberg in the last two seasons. Nevertheless, he has performed comparatively well in this season and has secured 13th place finish in the drivers’ championship.

Furthermore, he stood ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and behind Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber. On the other hand, his compatriot, Rosberg came 9th in the standings.

The record championship holder made the announcement about his retirement following the news of Lewis Hamilton’s move to the Brackley based team in the next season. Moreover, he expressed his gratitude towards his team and fans for all their love and support.

Additionally, the team principal of the Silver Arrows, Ross Brawn paid tribute to the seven-time world champion and said that he is surely the best driver of the last century. He also said that the veteran German driver could have performed better if he hadn’t faced the technical and tyre management issues which hindered his pace in quite a few races.

Though, Schumacher could not claim any race victory after his comeback, nonetheless, he secured an impressive third podium finish in this season in the European Grand Prix after taking a start from the 12th grid position.

Besides, he asserted that although his aim was to win the championship title which he couldn’t achieve, but he is not feeling upset over his poor performance in the last three season as he has accomplished a lot in his career so far which he will always cherish in his life ahead.

He also clarified that he is not going to be a Mercedes’ test driver in the coming year and said, “I have signed a contract and will be active as a test driver”.

However, he said that he will be testing karts next year.

“I like karting. It’s always been a big thing for me,” he said.

FIA tweaks rules ahead of 2013 season

The FIA has confirmed a number of changes to the Formula One sporting and technical regulations ahead of the 2013 season, following a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday.

There will be two major changes to the 2013 sporting regulations. Firstly, from next season drivers will only be able to utilise the Drag Reduction System (DRS) overtaking aid within designated DRS zones during practice and qualifying for safety reasons. Previously drivers had been free to deploy the system as they pleased in these sessions.

Secondly, the team personnel curfew - which prevents team members from being in the paddock during specified periods - has been extended from six to eight hours on Thursday nights. The number of exceptions allowed during a season has also been reduced from four to two.

The WMSC also ratified a number of changes to the technical regulations. They include the introduction of more stringent front wing deflection tests to prevent teams from using flexible bodywork to enhance aerodynamic performance; an increase in minimum car weight to compensate for the increased weight of the 2013 tyres; and the deletion of the ‘force majeure’ allowance relating to when a car stops on the track during qualifying. From the start of the 2013 season the FIA will determine how much fuel the car would have used to get back to the pits and add it to the one litre minimum sample.

There have also been several tweaks to the 2014 regulations. The requirement for cars to be driven exclusively under electric power in the pit lane has been postponed until 2017 and changes made to bodywork design, originally aimed at reducing downforce and drag for increased efficiency, have reverted to the 2012 specification. The minimum weight limit has also been raised to compensate for the additional weight of the new 2014 power units.
