Part luck, part pluck. Alonso drove like a man on fire in India. Even though the cause was hopeless, he came very close. Just one full-course yellow could have given him the victory, considering he was within ten seconds of Vettel at the end... Vettel who had to be pushed to the podium with an empty fuel tank...

It's becoming a question of, "Can SV surpass MS in total championships?"

I believe SV will get his 3rd straight title. The above question will probably start to be in discussion soon after.

F1 : Vettel fires verbal volley back at Alonso over Formula 1 title fight comment
Vettel hits back at Alonso's 'Newey' jibes - Sebastian Vettel has hit back at 2012 Formula One championship rival Fernando Alonso's claim that the Ferrari driver is really fighting against Red Bull's renowned designer Adrian Newey.

Watching his title hopes slip further under the wheels of Vettel's dominance in India, Ferrari's Alonso said after qualifying: "When we had similar cars to everyone, we were leading the championship.

"Now we are fighting against a Newey car," he added, in English. "They are first and second all the time, it's not only Sebastian."

Alonso's comments were not just a momentary slip of frustration.

He is also quoted in Italian: "If you want to win the championship you need to have the same resources as your competitors.

"We had them before and were at the top, but now we don't and we are behind.

"We're not fighting with Vettel and Webber, but with Newey and his car."

And in the Spanish media, Alonso is quoted as saying: "Yes, Vettel is not a bad driver, but at the last race his team-mate (Webber) had the pole.

"Sebastian is a double World Champion, but he has a car that is first regardless."

When asked about Alonso's comments, championship leader and India pole position sitter Vettel said Formula 1 is a "competition amongst teams and all of their members".

"So I don't think that this would be a fair statement towards any team member," he told the Formula 1 website.

Alonso, meanwhile, sounded defiant when he said he remains "100 percent sure" he will be champion late next month.

But he also admitted when contemplating Sunday's race: "If they (the Red Bulls) start well, go away and have an easy race, that's the worse news for us."

On a visit to India, Spanish king Juan Carlos I responded to Vettel's dominance with humour, predicting that for Alonso "to win, we need only to put some thumbtacks under Vettel's car".

Bernie Ecclestone lines up French GP for New Jersey's 2013 slot

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone is ready to sign a deal that could put the French Grand Prix back on the calendar next year.

Just a week after the planned New Jersey race was postponed because the venue was not going to be ready in time, Ecclestone revealed in India on Sunday that a replacement race was on the cards.

When asked if there was a chance for the French GP to return, Ecclestone said: "As far as I am concerned, yes. I am hoping.

"We are ready to sign; we have a pen and are ready to sign."
