Honda open to future Formula 1 return

Honda is open to the idea of a return to Formula 1 in the future, even though it thinks such a move will not happen in the short-term.

The Japanese manufacturer turned its back on the sport at the end of 2008, when a worldwide economic slump left the car company unable to justify the huge investment needed for an F1 project.

There have been several rumours since then that Honda could be tempted back - and high-level sources have suggested that informal talks have taken place between the Japanese car maker and the FIA about a future F1 programme.

Now, one of its senior figures has admitted that there are grounds for it to consider a return.

Yoshiharu Yamamoto, a senior Honda board member who is CEO of Honda R&D, says that he would be keen to get the company back to F1.

"I cannot speak for Honda, but on a personal level I love racing, but there is a lot involved when you are in F1," he said in an exclusive interview with AUTOSPORT"s sister publication Autocar.

Could Seb pull a three-peat WC?

Button: Red Bull could be unbeatable

    12 October 2012

Jenson Button is fearing that Red Bull could destroy its opposition over the remaining quarter of the 2012 Formula 1 season. Having struggled with the loss of exhaust-blown diffusers earlier this year, the reigning World Champions have now won the last two races and led a one-two in Friday’s second Korean practice session.

In Singapore, Red Bull ran Double DRS on its rear wing for the first time and Adrian Newey’s RB8 is yet to be beaten with the system on-board. After seeing Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber go top on Friday afternoon at Yeongam, Button admitted that the order may stay the same for the rest of the weekend.

“I think they’re going to be very, very difficult to beat in qualifying…they’ve got those four tenths again in practice,” the McLaren driver commented.

“They just seem to have got that strength back. Our own race pace seems to be competitive but, over the one lap, we are still lacking and we’ve got to work on it. With Red Bull, we were all already surprised by their speed at Suzuka.”

Vettel sealed the first Korean Grand Prix pole position in 2010 and won last year’s race after passing pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton just four corners after the start

Outstanding weekend so far for Red Bull. But disappointing end for Vettel. After lording over the practice sessions, Q1, and Q2, he ultimately loses out by one-tenth of a second to Webber because of a shabby second sector.
