No. They did not play the Italian anthem for Toro Rosso because the engine was a Ferrari. They played it because the Constructor Team was Italian-based, eventhough it was nontheless owned by Red Bull Austria.

So now, Vijay Mallya will probably cringe in case his team ever wins a grand prix. Because Force India is actually based in England.

China plays wrong anthem to mark Red Bull win

Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber had just secured an historic one-two debut victory for the team, but Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko said one element of Sunday's proceedings left him distinctly ‘disappointed’.

After German winner Vettel mouthed the final words of the 'Das Deutschlandlied' on the podium, Austrian Marko then prepared to bask in the national pride of the Austrian anthem.

'Land der Berge, Land am Strome' in Austrian means 'Land of the mountains, land on the river', sang to the melody of a 1790s song by the composer Johann Holzer.

Red Bull, owned by the Austrian energy drink magnate Dietrich Mateschitz, competes under a racing license by the Austrian motor racing authority OAMTC, the Osterreichischer Automobil, Motorrad und Touring Club.

However, to mark the victory of the winning constructor, the loudspeakers of the Shanghai International Circuit instead exclaimed God Save the Queen, apparently because Red Bull Racing is based in Milton-Keynes.

This is confusing now. Based on this, should it be the nationality of the owner of the team....

So, last year, should it have been the National Anthem of Austria when Toro Rosso won? ....

    Amazing race for several drivers:

Timo Glock: Who defied the odds and drove from last place up to the points.

Hekki Kovalainen: who outdrove rain-specialist Lewis Hamilton from four places behind him to one above. Lewis was very fast in the wet, as always, but he pushed just that little bit too hard. In fact, Hekki was one of the only front-runners not to go off two or three times!

Felipe Massa: despite his engine conking out, has banished fears of his inability in the wet. It looked like Raikkonen was starting to master Felipe this season, but Felipe drove the superior race.

Adrian Sutil: Who cares if he didn't finish... what a race! The Sutil in the Force India passing Hamilton was hilarious!

Vettel, Webber and Button: Have you ever seen such dicing at the front? The sequence where Button and Webber were trading places was classic! The podium was a warm, heartfelt moment, when all three drivers, apparently happy as buttons to be there, were spraying each other with champagne. Despite this being his first loss of the season, Button seemed very happy to be up there.

Red Bull: The RBRs at the front and the STRs coming up in the pack... guess they're getting their money's worth in terms of results!

McLaren: Finally getting more pace out of their cars. maybe enough to be back out in front by next race... as long as the WMSC doesn't disqualify them for the season.

    Terrible race for:
Kimi: The car was just never there for him.

Lewis: Very fast. Lots of overtakes. Lots of mistakes that relegated him back down. But Sutil's off with three laps to go show how treacherous the conditions were.

Jarno Trulli: Trulli-trulli-trulli... make way for the Trulli-train again! This time, people were making him look like a chump, as he got overtaken right and left. Kubica finally put him out of his misery on Lap 19. Personally... Trulli should have just parked it before that happened.

Kubica: Though the fact that he was outpacing Trulli showed that he had finally gotten a handle on his crappy KERS-no KERS-KERS-nope...no KERS car, it was a terrible weekend for him.

Alonso: Low fuel gamble ultimately beaten by six laps behind the safety car.

Piquet: Gets the axe by next week, I bet. Terrible, terrible drive.

Ferrari: Engine problems for both Massa and Kimi. And I'm betting it's their intake design. Kimi says the problems were worse behind other cars. I think the Ferrari intakes pick up way too much water in wet or cold conditions. Disastrous start to the season, and it's not Kimi's fault, this time.

BMW Sauber: KERS? No KERS? Kahon? Maybe they should chop six inches off of Kubica to get the packaging right. Poor guy.

    it is indeed confusing.

Germany wants own anthem for McLaren wins

A controversy in Germany is brewing over the anthem played on the podium following Fernando Alonso's victory for McLaren-Mercedes in Malaysia.

After German commentators hailed the win as a triumph for the three-pointed star, some viewers were surprised to hear Britain's 'God Save The Queen' mark the occasion for the winning constructor.

McLaren is based in England, but Mercedes-Benz - with a 40 per cent stake in the silver-clad team - is the largest shareholder.

The major German newspaper Bild-Zeitung argues that the national anthem 'Das Lied der Deutschen' - made so famous on the F1 podium by the 91 victories of Michael Schumacher - should be played whenever a McLaren greets the chequered flag first.

On behalf of Germany, Bild said the McLaren MP4-22 is "OUR car!"

"It is difficult to understand," said former German formula one driver Hans-Joachim Stuck.

"The heart of the silver Arrows is in Germany," he added, referring to Mercedes motor sport's Stuttgart HQ.

Mercedes' Norbert Haug reacted: "I can understand the feeling of the German fans. But we are an international team and the really important thing is that we win, not what is heard on the podium."

In Montreal, Kubica also hit Trulli from behind, causing his dramatic crash. They're really bossom buddies.

Losing the car while taxiing towards the pitlane entrance, is an unforgivable mistake. Unless you are Lewis Hamilton.

The anthem of the Constructor Team has raised an interesting point.

When Vettel won at Monza last year, they played the Italian anthem for the Red Bull Constructor Team. Nobody complained. Why complain now?

How do you determine the "nationality" of the Constructor Team anyway? The biggest shareholder? Or the location of the factory?

If the biggest shareholder is the answer, then I agree that McLaren should play the German anthem for Mercedes Benz. Eventhough McLaren is a very British brand, the brits have a minority stake on the name today. Just like the very British brand "Jaguar", became an American brand when it joined F1 as Jaguar-Ford team. But if Jaguar comes back to F1 today, it will surely play the Indian national anthem.

Ok, so figure this out: What anthem will be played if Nico Rosberg wins a grand prix??? His father is Finnish, his mother is German, and Nico lives in Monaco.

Ah, but the Scuderia Torro Rosso actually has a real engine in it... not a tuk-tuk motor like the Force India car has... ...I think one of the timing screens showed the STR had one of the highest speed classifications of the race.

Losing the car while taxiing towards the pitlane entrance, is an unforgivable mistake. Unless you are Lewis Hamilton.
Shall we mention the fact that Kimi almost rear-ended another car at the pit exits?
