September 19th, 2011 05:47 PM #443I don't steal, I don't kill, and I don't womanize, but I don't go to church.
My wife has accepted my stand, and wala ding issue sa amin.
My only compromise is that I have to go to church to attend the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve masses, and also the occasional wedding mass and funeral.
What really ticks me off is that my wife's circle of friends are all devout Christians. Whenever I attend a gimmick that includes them, they always single me out and try to "save" me. Nakakainis na tuloy sumama sa gimmick nila.

September 19th, 2011 06:48 PM #446If you really are in search for the truth, you should always challenge what you know and what you believe in. That means you should also question your religious faith. But unfortunately, to question the Bible or any religious text for that matter is heresy/blasphemy/apostasy (alin ba tama?) kung religious faith ang pag-uusapan.
I assume that you're referring to a deity here, so para maging general ang usapin... It cannot be proven or disproved.
To be honest, I'm a serious searcher for truth, read lots about the Bible (since I'm a Christian) and related topics few years back. There are a lot of things that I like about the Bible and in my opinion can make us a morally better person if followed correctly. Pero some things just do not add up.
So I decided to have the good things of both world.
Kung moral issue pag-uusapan, I would search the Bible kasunod ay Science. Although may steps na rin ang Science that addresses moral issues, I believe it's still in its infancy.

September 19th, 2011 07:04 PM #448Yes, but your question is meaningless. Do you believe in Zeus? Lord Brahma? Krishna? Shiva? Odin? Thor? Allah? No? You must be ‘anti-God’ then because they are all considered Gods by their respective followers, the same way you think the Judeo-Christian God is the God. Does your family know how ‘anti-God’ you are?
You don’t believe in a thousand other Gods, I just don’t believe in a thousand and one.

followers took sides and things became violent and there was bloodshed and burning of churches (that happens whenever people are passionate hehe) -- kinda like Sunnis and Shiites no?
that division is the origin of Orthodox and Roman Christianity
Athanasius became a pope and a saint (syempre hehe)
and Arius... well...
wiki:
Although virtually all positive writings on Arius' theology have been suppressed or destroyed,[2] negative writings describe Arius' theology as one in which there was a time before the Son of God, where only God the Father existed. Despite concerted opposition, 'Arian', or nontrinitarian Christian churches persisted throughout Europe and North Africa, in various Gothic and Germanic kingdoms, until suppressed by military conquest or voluntary royal conversion between the fifth and seventh centuries.

September 19th, 2011 07:27 PM #450May point ka. Yan ang ‘Diyos’ nila Carl Sagan at Albert Einstein at possibly pati ni Stephen Hawking. The difference between the ‘Deist’ God and the Gods of Theistic religions is that this “God” is not given any characterizations. Hindi siya all-good, all-powerful o all-knowing.
Siya lang ang nag-flick ng switch at the beginning of the Universe (if there is one, ongoing pa rin kasi ang scientific debates on whether the Universe did have a beginning.)
Mas may sense, di ba? But ultimately that’s not what modern religions want you to believe.
