September 19th, 2011 12:43 AM #422What makes the Bible better than the Talmud, the Vedas, the Quran, the Book of Shadows or any other ‘religious’ text? They are all equally unsubstantiated and all their claims of divinity come from within the text itself. I can say that this post was written by God—and my evidence would be: “It says here right on this post”. That would be absurd but it is precisely what you are asking us to do. Claiming that a book is divine because that is what the book said. Only a fool would fall for such circular ‘evidence’.
We should all be thankful that we’re past the age of nightmarish ignorance that religion has foisted upon us for thousands of years. It is saddening that there are some who would presumably want us to go back to those days so that religion may take back its position of prominence that it once enjoyed.
Religion was our first and worst attempt at explaining natural phenomena. It has failed miserably then, it fails miserably now.
“Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has: it never comes to the aid of spiritual things, but--more frequently than not --struggles against the divine Word, treating with contempt all that emanates from God.” – Martin Luther

First reason: The Earth has a thick atmosphere which burns up smaller asteroids as they near Earth's surface.
Second reason: Earth has weather and an active geology. This erodes some of the older and smaller craters. And since Earth is 3/4 covered by water, some have hit the ocean leaving no visible trace on the surface.
Even so, we have a substantial list of large craters on the planet http://geology.com/meteor-impact-craters.shtmlLast edited by ghosthunter; September 19th, 2011 at 10:35 AM.

A phylogenetic tree of life, showing the relationship between species whose genomes have been sequenced by humans. The very center represents the last universal ancestor of all life on earth. The different colors represent the three domains of life: pink represents eukaryota (animals, plants and fungi); blue represents bacteria; and green represents archaea. Note the presence of homo sapiens (humans) second from the rightmost edge of the pink segment. The light and dark bands along the edge correspond to clades: the rightmost light red band is en:Metazoa, with dark red en:Ascomycota to its left, and light blue en:Firmicutes to its right.[1]
