US backs Philippines, warns China over air zone

Manila (AFP) - US Secretary of State John Kerry warned China Tuesday against any move to declare an air defence zone in the South China Sea, as he affirmed defence ties with long-time ally the Philippines.

He warned Beijing against any similar move in the South China Sea, where it has overlapping claims with several Asian countries including the Philippines.

Kerry also announced that Washington had committed $40 million to help the Philippines strengthen its sea defence capabilities.

mahirap pag feeling nila entitled sila sa mga inaangkin nila...at capable na mang-angkin...ipaglalaban talaga ng mga yan kung naniniwala sila na kanila yun in the first place at inagaw ng iba. others will back off if their claim is just backed by greed. too much hassle. unless, the gain is worth the pain.

seriously, does mutually assured destruction (MAD) hold sway over the chinese like it does over the US and other countries? in terms of population they outnumber any other race and are scattered all over.

at dapat umalis na rin yung mga warship nila sa spratly. ang sabi nila noon, pahingahan lang ng mga mangingisda nila. tapos biglang nagkaroon ng naval base?
