    regarding the NFA sa SONA..

di ba ang basic function ng NFA is be a buffer between the farmers and the trader / consumer? NFA will buy from the farmers, para ma prop up ang kita ng farmers. Then NFA can sell to the public, para din ma control ang pricing ng bigas sa consumer...

granted na naabuso .. in what ways ba naabuso? They buy ridiculously low? In a way, para mabenta sa kanila, medyo tataasan nila so the farmer will choose them over other options... so dun pa lang lulubog talaga ang NFA.. for them to be successful, they have to be the highest bidder ika nga?

For NFA to be profitable, either it buys cheap, or sells high... in the scenario na mahal na ang bili nya from farmers, dapat ibenta nya ng mas mataas para tumubo sya... but if one of the other objectives of NFA is to control the price of rice to the consumers (meaning keep it low).. sila din mag bebenta ng mababa (lower than competitors) para di gaano lumobo presyo ng bigas...

tingin ko, the NFA has to choose which sector it wants to protect... farmers lang.. o consumers lang.. kung both.. both sides din sya lugi... let market forces act sa selling ng farmers? let market forces act on prices of rice?

or did i miss the point entirely? *kamot ulo*

    On NFA:

E di syempre ayaw nila dahil mas gusto nila mas mataas na presyo... kung competitiveness / efficiency naman.. well.. our land reform program makes sure that the farmer will never be competitive and efficient so bokya din...

kung per se yung issue is yung pag import ng NFA... maaari may naglalaro dun para kumita... but.. I think it is also the law of supply and demand... government nor the NFA doesn't have a monopoly of rice in the country... may import quota.. dun may corruption.. but yun din ang source ng corruption...

but, for the NFA to stop importation completely... risky yan.. mabuti kung mabilis ang monitoring ng government kung may mag hoard ng supply... para hindi pa nakaka dami ng hoard eh, nahuhuli agad... but kung makapag hoard na di napapansin to the point na nagka shortage talaga sa supply (even though artificial)... di sila pwede mag import.. so anong mangyayari.. tataas ang presyo ng bigas...

i think it is not the importation per se which is the problem... it is the people who make policies in government interests... who make it for their own benefit (of course may kakutsaba na may pera)...

in a way, it's like laying the predicate na mahirap.. para kung di nya matupad pangako nya nung kampanya, naka ready na yung sisisihin nya...

but, pagbigyan mo na rin... this is the first and last time naman na magagamit nyang dahilan yung past administration..

I guess that other than the expose that most of us perceived it to be, P.NOY is just setting a baseline on where his administration is going to start. It's truly a (sorry) state of our nation....

May paparating pa raw from Vietnam, -ipina-delay lang ang delivery and the news was "claiming" that these will be enough rice for us until the end of the year......

Hhhmmm....

sa issue ng MWSS benefits di lang ng board, but pati na sa buong plantilla nila... masyado politicized ang issue... if you look at it, medyo conflict nga... as a utility that serves the public, they need to keep their prices low para abot kaya ng consumers. if their costs get higher, these automatically gets passed on to their consumers because of the guaranteed rate of return for being utility companies. Since utility nga sila, no choice ang consumers kungdi mag consume ng service nila (the alternative is to illegal since safeguarded din ng batas yung industry nila kaya nga may tawag na illegal water connection, illegal electric connection.. illegal cable tv connection.. )...

but as any regular company or corporation, kailangan din kumita ng kumpanya.. utility company man sya o hindi... yung mga empleyado na nag tra trabaho sa utility companies also deserve their fair share of the benefits / compensation... kung ikaw umupo bilang empleyado sa utility company at sa CBA or salary negotiations with your boss ay gawing dahilan ng management na utility company tayo kaya hanggang dyan lang ang pwede mong sahod / benepisyo.. di ba discouraging din for people to work with that kind of environment?

what makes this a gray area is because wala (yata) guideline on the maximum scope of benefits / perks that a utility company can provide to their employees... at least kung may ganun, malinaw.. kapag wala kasi, ang impression is napakalaki.. but if you compare it with other private corporations / companies.. baka naman competitive lang...

for this specific MWSS issue.. they may have gone overboard.. may abuso... but kaya din lang na enjoy yung abuso na yun ay dahil walang guidelines na hanggang saan lang.. kaya everything is abuso... with a guideline.. at least pag lumagpas lang sa guideline tsaka lang ma consider na abuso...

    BIR fumbles on Villarica
    August 02, 2010

HENRY Villarica of the 400-strong Villarica Pawnshop chain took out ads in the Saturday papers to distance his empire from the tax troubles of brother William, a sports car fancier.

“William Villarica does not own any Villarica Pawnshop,” said the ad. “He is in no way an employer, stockholder or officer of any of the corporations that own and operate Villarica Pawnshop.”

“It is likewise unfair that unverified reports have been sensationalized and our corporate name has been dragged into the confusion,” the ad harrumphed, without identifying that it was the Bureau of Internal Revenue that was the source of the news release.

According to the industry grapevine, William sold out in the late 80s his shareholdings in the family pawnshop, which was started by their mother, to brother Henry, a UP law graduate and a Bar topnotcher.

A man-about-town, William then gave away the remaining branches in his control, now called Dominion, to his wife as part of a divorce settlement.

What is not generally known to the public is that Henry’s wife and college sweetheart and pawnshop partner, Linabelle Ruth, has just been elected a first time representative of the fourth district of Bulacan.

Even better, Villarica is a card-carrying member of the Liberal Party.

Could that be the reason why P-Noy did not identify by name the erring pawnshop when he appeared before Congress during his first State-ofthe- Nation Address?

    Just asking.
