I share the same sentiments as uls.

Bullshit naman. To begin with, most of our manufacturing sector have fled the country thanks to our non-competitive environments. Not only is producing steel highly energy dependent but the industry is also cyclical (look at AcelorMittal's annual reports). Throw in our red tape, our government's penchant for turning a blind eye to the amount of custom smuggling, our relatively expensive minimum wage, our idiotic Senator who wants "14th" month pay, our lack of infrastructure (notably railways) and... ano uli gusto nitong Cola? Ede bilhin niya if it's such as good investment. Let's see him produce Php100 steel to compete with China's Php30 steel (prices fabricated but it gets the point across)

Too true. Compared to our Asean neighbours, we are so uncompetitive with manufacturing. We've got too many labour unions and our politicians have been known to meddle in business affairs too much. Wasn't it just early this year when Ford relocated to Thailand? Does Suzuki still have a vehicle factory here or is it just for motorcycles now? I spoke to someone from the semiconductor industry half a year ago and Iwas told that a lot of factories have closed down. The only industry seriously growing is the BPO industry which is a service industry.

The sad reality we're facing. Where in fact, ang dami natin idle lands. Someone said or has been taught in school na dapat ang focus natin is on agriculture dahil sa dami ng arable lands natin. Kaso hindi, pinagpipilitan daw ang manufacturing at industrial.

Agriculture is important but it won't lift us from our current state. We still need industries to create jobs.

I have a relative who works in the steel industry. One of their main problems would be smuggled steel from China.

If the government ran a steel company like NSC, magiging debt-ridden lang yan while its management will enrich themselves with fat bonuses.

The LGUs, Congress and the Senate is a steal company that's been producing a lot of noise, hot air and noxious gasses.
