July 6th, 2020 02:31 AM #2454medical school + residency training + specialist training = 13 to 14 years more, after graduation from college.
when did it start paying out economically for me?
honestly, "i don't know".
kasi naman, all my life, i was dependent on my parents for support.
then one day, about 5 years after finishing residency, i was paying for the house utilities, maintenance medicines and household expenses, and some more for whatever my then-retired parents needed.
five years after finishing training, i could do activities of daily living + luho. i could buy a car, but i couldn't yet buy a house.
i was very, very, very lucky, because i did not have to save up for a house. my parents were giving me the house. there was nobody left in it but them and me.
further training abroad?
the biggest hurdle is passing the MLE. not all programs require it, however. and compared to the potential gain, the cost of application is ... sige na nga... annoying!
the next biggest problem is getting a slot in the foreign training program. it is not easy to get accepted, if one is a furriner.
but once accepted, the next issue is money to support oneself over there. but not to worry! that is actually the easiest problem of the three. some programs have paying salaries or stipends. and for those without, there are many other sources...
clinic?
maybe 500K. probably less.
it's just renting a room in the horsepital. make it over if you like. parang bahay. you can make it palatial, or you can make it affordable but neat. do time-sharing. even more affordable.
and we do not have to buy millions for "hospital stock". many hospitals now have "right to practice" fees for a mere few hundred thousands.
medical equipment? all medical students already have most of it.
but i take exception on the ophthalmologists. their clinic equipment runs in the millions. perhaps that is the reason why they charge what they charge. but don't worry! ophthalmologists' credit ratings are very good. for one to renege, is already case-reportable.
i can't put a price on my residency and fellowship, because, technically, i was being paid to do that.
if i were to price my medical school tuition fees and cost of living at 4M, and an additional 1M for clinic space / practice, then i would say, nabawi ko siya in 5M divide by annual net income.
but if i were to consider my entire medical training, including all those poor souls that i in-convenienced or even contributed to their deaths, then i would say, "kailanman ay hindi ko kayang bayaran yan".Last edited by dr. d; July 6th, 2020 at 03:03 AM.

it's demand
the economy is experiencing demand shock
dami nawalan ng trabaho wala pang gastos
ung swerte na may trabaho pa lost income during lockdown so still repairing balance sheet
madami utang
kahit balik trabaho maari hindi 100% ang income (ung iba every other day lang daw ang work)Last edited by uls; July 6th, 2020 at 06:37 PM.
