and because everyone else needs to maintain dollar reserves, the US has to run a persistent trade deficit to supply dollars to the rest of the world

as the rest of the world saves dollars, there's a need for some place to park those dollars

the only place large enough to park trillions of dollars is the US treasury market

the US basically borrows the world's dollar savings

that's how the US maintains its superpower status

no other government in the world has access to that kind of funding

that's how the US is able to maintain 11 carrier strike groups that prowl the world's oceans

how they maintain military bases around the world

    --

unlike other countries, the US doesn't need to worry about running out of dollars

if the Philippines spends more dollars than it is earning, the peso will depreciate

it will make imports more expensive and dollar-denominated debt more difficult to service

So no, you cannot borrow and spend like the US

unless there's a new reserve currency and you happen to own it

Not the best time to invest though. Unload rather.

    Timing is the key here.

Problem is, I apparently do not have the knack for it....

Trust your instinct bro and learn from mistakes. My mantra when deciding to sell is "do not be greedy". :D

I used to have "seller's remorse" bro a day after unloading only to find out share prices went up further. Heck, I got heart burns thinking of the extra bucks had I waited for a day. It took sometime to accept that it is not worth the stress. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.
