Lacson: Iggy Arroyo 'faked' helicopter lease agreement
NEGROS Occidental Representative Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo can still be charged with falsification of public documents in connection to the sale of second-hand helicopters to the Philippine National Police in 2009, said a senator Tuesday.
Senator Panfilo Lacson, who has pointed out inconsistencies in a lease agreement between Lourdes T. Arroyo (LTA) Inc. and helicopter dealer Lionair Inc., said Representative Arroyo could be charged for faking notarized documents.
"And it isn't just Iggy Arroyo, the notary too. The notary public could be disbarred," he told reporters.
Under the Revised Penal Code, falsification of public documents carries a penalty of six years in prison and a fine of P5,000.
Lacson said Representative Arroyo's claim Monday that he leased, and did not buy, helicopters later sold to the police as brand new, was a "bungled rescue job."
"Like the San Francisco, California properties, and the Jose Pidal accounts, Iggy Arroyo has developed the habit of rescuing big brother (Juan Miguel Arroyo) but without much success," he said in a press statement.
Lawyer Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo, who has been dragged into the Senate's investigation of the anomalous helicopter purchase, has denied owning the Robinson Raven I helicopters.
He even filed a perjury case against Archibald Po, a helicopter dealer who testified that Arroyo bought the helicopters in 2003.
But documents to support that perjury case, have discrepancies, Lacson said.
He said a loan agreement that former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's husband presented to the Pasay City had contradictory dates. The agreement was notarized on March 16, 2004 but Lionair corporate secretary Renato Sia's cedula used in the document was dated April 2, 2004.
Sia's signature only appears on the last page of the agreement and it was not signed by witnesses, Lacson added.
Lacson also wondered how some of the helicopters could be leased when they were still not in the Philippines when the agreement was allegedly signed.
He said a third batch of helicopters was still at sea when the lease agreement was signed.
"It was still at sea but it was already leased and registered. How can that be?" he said.
He said the lawyer who notarized the agreement should be summoned to the Senate to explain.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, meanwhile, said Representative Arroyo taking the hit for his older brother was nothing new.
Representative Arroyo earlier claimed ownership of a bank account that his brother had been accused of using to launder campaign contributions.
He said the younger Arroyo should attend the next hearing.
"We will find out at the hearing if LTA or Lionair owns the helicopters," he said. (Jonathan de Santos/Sunnex)

Dapat itong si Iggy kasuhan din! As per investigative journalist Jarius Bondoc, the supposed lease agreement signed by Iggy was obviously faked and is full of inconsistencies. May "sakit" din pala ito (sa atay naman) at nagpapagamot sa London. Plus he will invoke "inter-parliamentary courtesy" since he's a congressman to avoid the senate hearings. Magpatayo na lang sila ng sarili nilang hospital na may tatlong suite sa penthouse (for Gloria, Mike, and Iggy). Gandahan nyo yung morgue sa basement kasi dun lahat ang bagsak nyo mga hinayupak kyo!
