cases of leptospirosis do go up with floodwaters.
leptospirosis is a disease that usually is traditionally obtained when one wades thru waters that are contaminated with rat urine containing the organism.
while 90% is barely symptomatic, parang trangkaso lang, 10% will need serious hospitalization.

As much as I laud Marikina's flood prevention measures, the reality is that the city is built on borrowed land.
The river is reclaiming its old path, and with rising water levels due to climate change, this will get worse.
