In the movie "Enemy at the Gates" only 1 in 10 russian soldiers had a rifle. If the soldier with the rifle falls the soldier behind him picks it up.
Napoleon with millions of soldiers failed. Hitler failed. Russia had 1 defense that is very difficult to overcome even to this day. It is called the "Russian Winter".
And to answer the question, the Russians. The Stalinist purges alone already killed 20 million to Hitler's 6 million jews. They already had a head start even before Hitler came to power.

Paano magiging Nazi eh ang tingin nga nila sa mga Russians ay subhumans? Hitler also had plans of enslaving and exterminating them.
Yes sir, they failed but that's just a hypothetical question I asked to make a point. You concluded that the Soviets are worse based on the estimated body count alone but you haven't taken into the account the amount of time the Nazis were in power and how widespread Communism was. By doing so, you're discounting the murderous potential of the Nazis.
Also, if you're going to argue that the Soviets are worse based on the number of deaths, I can argue otherwise based on the intent and sheer contempt for human life. Hitler and his band of merry murderers specifically discussed different ways of killing the Jews and other racial minorities. Stalin, on the other hand, enacted policies that indirectly killed some of his people. Most of the deaths under his regime was due to the famine which was caused by his policies.
Now I'm not defending the Soviets in any way. I just think both are terrible and comparing who's better or worse is useless. It's good that these monsters eventually fought each other instead of maintaining their alliance.

April 9th, 2019 04:47 PM #30Not only the winter but the mud season(Rasputitsa) also brought trouble to invading armies. In the Battle of Moscow, it slowed down the advancing Nazi troops and gave the Soviets more time to regroup and mount counteroffensives. Furthermore, Russia is just too big to conquer. The initial success of Operation Barbarossa can only be attributed to blitzkrieg. But as the Nazis pushed further in the East, the time it took for the supplies to reach them was much longer and the Soviets exploited this.
