    MANILA, Philippines - The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) will investigate the alleged attempt of Pasay Regional Trial Court Judge Jesus Mupas through certain emissaries to extort money from former elections commission chief Benjamin Abalos Sr. in exchange for a favorable ruling on his electoral sabotage case.

    IBP President Roan Libarios said they have invited Mupas’ and Abalos’ lawyers to a hearing on January 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m.

    "We have taken this action to defend the integrity of the legal profession," he said.

    "If the evidence warrants, the IBP will not hesitate to recommend the disbarment of the lawyers,” he warned.
