Group rallies behind Gadian – 'the woman who has balls'

MANILA, Philippines — “The woman who has balls," Navy Lt. Senior Grade Nancy Gadian, on Friday found allies in concerned citizens, including the father of another Navy whistleblower allegedly killed by his superiors in 1995.

In a joint statement, Felipe Pestaño, father of the late Ensign Phillip Andrew Pestaño, activist lawyer Harry Roque Jr., and the Concerned Citizens Movement, called on the public to rally behind Gadian following the arrest order issued against her.

“Those who want to tell the truth are silenced, while those who do evil are rewarded," Pestaño said, adding that the public should protect latest whistleblower from same the fate that his son suffered.

Gadian is the subject of an “apprehension order" by the Philippine Navy, which wants her “restricted" after she went publicly exposed alleged irregularities in the disbursement of funds for the joint RP-US military exercises — called the Balikatan.

The 40-year-old junion officer has particularly accused (ret.) Lt. Gen. Eugenio Cedo of pocketing portions of the P46-million fund for the Balikatan exercises in 2007. Cedo, former chief of the Western Mindanao Command, denied the allegation.

Saying Gadian “has balls to expose anomaly," CCM's Josefina Lichauco also called for "sanctuary and legal assistance" for the embattled Navy officer.

The arrest order against Gadian for desertion and insubordination was issued after she failed to report back to he unit from her 30-day leave that began April 22. - GMANews.TV
