Excuses, lame excuses, sir. Bottomline -- milk tea operators can't help but still operate because of the lure and lust for $$$$$$. Greed is good. It's not the owners who'll get sick and probably die anyway, it's the poor employees. They readily and willingly sacrifice employees' lives in the altar of $$$$$$

In these times, I heart starbucks for unselfishly and uncompromisingly putting lives above $$$$$$$.

    HEADLINE
Ramon S. Ang: Filipino leader, transformational businessman

According to RSA, this pandemic taught him many lessons, first and foremost the reality that life is short, and we need to reach out and help the marginalized cope with this crisis.

We must admit that RSA, as he is known to business associates and friends, is a self-made businessman who built his empire in his own terms and transformed San Miguel Corporation to what it is today.

He is currently estimated to be worth US$2.3 billion, according to Forbes magazine. This business tycoon is president and vice chair of San Miguel Corporation, one of the country’s oldest conglomerates.

As of the end of 2021, Forbes ranked RSA as No. 9 among the Philippines’ 50 richest and No. 1444 in the Billionaires 2021 list. Aside from San Miguel, he is also the CEO of Top Frontier Investment Holdings Inc. and chairman of Eagle Cement Corporation.

RSA is married and has eight children, some of them now actively involved in his businesses. Daughter Cecile is president of Diamond Hotel. John Paul is the CEO of Eagle Cement Corporation while daughter Monic is the treasurer and CFO.

Despite some tragic experiences in his life, RSA always emerges stronger. This, as he continues to transform his businesses to greater heights with great energy and dedication.

Ang was born in Manila Philippines in 1954. He graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Engineering from Far Eastern University. He also completed his doctorate degree in the same university. He acknowledged in his commencement address to the college graduating class in 2018 that, “it was my years as a working student when I learned how to do business.”

His business skills which became his solid foundation for his far reaching success were first tested during his college years.

He studied people as he interacted with them. He became astute in reading them, evaluating their motives and abilities. He learned how to be resilient to adapt to any given situation. No matter how difficult a situation, he would, “make tough decisions based on my gut instincts

He shared that it was in building long-term relationships with partners, allies and friends that are the secrets to his success. His partnership with Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco paved the way for his road to success and the rest of that amazing story is a wonderful lesson in respect, trust and mentorship.

Today, SMC under RSA’s leadership is one of the Philippines’ largest and most diverse conglomerates in terms of revenue and total assets with sales equivalent to approximately 4 percent of the Philippines’ GDP in 2020. His businesses span the industries of food and beverage, fuel and oil, energy and infrastructure which are market leaders. SMC also has investments in property development and leasing, banking, cement and automobile distributorship.

According to RSA, this pandemic taught him many lessons. First and foremost, the reality that life is short, and we need to reach out and help the marginalized cope with this crisis. In his president’s message he shares, “Now more than ever, it’s clear that an approach to growth has never been just about accumulation of profit. Rather, in becoming more aware of our dependence on one another, the importance of community and solidarity, it’s about reinvesting profits back into our country. The more prosperous the lives of our countrymen, the better our company’s future stands.”
