MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) – Former Commission on Elections (COMELEC) chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. was rushed to the hospital Friday, abs-cbnNEWS.com learned on Saturday.

The information was confirmed by Mandaluyong City Public Information Officer Jimmy Isidro.

“Pagkagaling yata ng COMELEC,” said Isidro when asked what time Abalos was taken to the unnamed hospital.

Isidro told abs-cbnNEWS.com that Abalos is now resting.

He said he does not know the reason why the former chief of the poll body was hospitalized.

On Friday, the COMELEC filed electoral sabotage raps against Abalos, former President Gloria Arroyo, former Maguindanao governor Andal S. Ampatuan Sr., and several other public officials in connection to the alleged rigging of the 2007 election results in Maguindanao.

The COMELC en banc voted 5 to 2 to file the case, which is non-bailable.

Abalos assailed the filing of the charges, saying it was "railroaded."

The 5 COMELEC Commissioners who voted in favor of the filing were Augusto Lagman, Sixto Brillantes, Elias Yusoph, Rene Sarmiento and Christian Lim.

Two commissioners, Lucenito Tagle and Armando Velasco, abstained from voting. - With Dexter Ganibe, radio dzMM

What Mike Arroyo ate after SC ruling on GMA travel

MANILA, Philippines - For someone who has a heart ailment, Mike Arroyo seems to enjoy eating not-so-heart-friendly meals, an organization noted.

Move.PH released an article on Facebook about what the former First Gentleman allegedly ate after the Supreme Court, through a temporary restraining order, allowed him and former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to seek medical treatment abroad.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has turned down Mrs. Arroyo's request as the Aquino administration fears that she and and her husband will opt to stay out of the country to run from plunder and electoral sabotage complaints filed against them.

The author of the article, identified only as *I_amHolo, said Mr. Arroyo was "devouring carbonara and downing Pale Pilsen" when the SC allowed them to travel, citing information from the chef and waiters of an Italian restaurant in Makati as well as the former First Gentleman's long-time staff.

Carbonara is a creamy and rich Italian pasta dish traditionally made with eggs, cheese and bacon. It is usually high in fat and cholesterol.

High levels of fat and cholesterol is known to significantly increase the risk for heart disease.

"The former First Gentleman must have celebrated early," the article said.

"For a person who has a heart ailment, Arroyo seems to be feasting on hearty meals," it added.

Mr. Arroyo's other favorite dish in the restaurant, according to the article, is a Reuben sandwich, a hot sandwich filled with Swiss cheese, corned beef, layers of meat and sauerkraut (finely shredded cabbage).

It is served with French fries.

Mr. Arroyo recently went abroad to seek medical treatment for his heart ailment.

He was unable to attend a Senate Blue Committee hearing to shed light on his alleged links to the sale of pre-owned helicopters to the Philippine National Police.

"I am told my condition is life-threatening," Mr. Arroyo earlier said in a speech.

De Lima order to hold Arroyo is it unconstitutional ?
