Military exec asked: Is China guilty of invasion?
    PDI, May 07, 2015 12:20pm

Is there an invasion by China in the disputed West PhilippineSea (South China Sea)?

Senator AntonioTrillanes IV raised this question to Vice Admiral Alexander Lopez, chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines'Western Command, after he presented a slideshow of the alleged massive reclamation activities in all seven reefs in the West Philippine Sea during the hearing of the Senate committee on national defense on Thursday.

"Based on your presentation, do you see an invasion or just sea control or they're going to make use of this reclamation or the occupied islands for operational basis?" Trillanes asked Lopez after his presentation.

"As I said in my presentation, all the activities of China are all asymmetric actions. There'sno clear message but they are asymmetric," Lopez said.

Asked by Senator Teofisto Guingona III to explain what he meant by asymmetric actions, the military official said: "In vernacular, ito po 'yung mga ginagawa nila na hindi pangkaraniwan na wala sa doktina kung sa military." (In the vernacular, this means their actions that are not in accordance with military doctrines.)

"Ito po yung ginagawa nila sa ibang lugar, gumagamit sila ng ibang paraan para makamit pa rin nila 'yung kanilang objectives not through military means, not through traditional doctrines,"Lopez added.
(These are their actions in places where they use methods which are not through military means and not through traditional doctrines to achieve their objectives.)

Aside from Lopez, other military officials led by Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, and representatives of the Department of Officials, among others, were present in the hearing.

US demands immediate halt to South China Sea reclamations

    Saturday, May 30, 2015 10:12AM

The United States on Saturday called for an "immediate and lasting halt" to reclamation works in disputed waters in the South China Sea, saying China's behavior in the area was "out of step" with international norms.

"First, we want a peaceful resolution of all disputes. To that end, there should be an immediate and lasting halt to land reclamation by all claimants," US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter told a high-level security conference in Singapore.

"We also oppose any further familiarization of disputed features," he said, stressing that US forces would continue entering what he called "international waters" in the South China Sea.

Carter added that "with its actions in the South China Sea, China is out of step with both the international rules and norms."

He acknowledged that other claimants have developed outposts of differing scope and degree, including Vietnam with 48 outposts, the Philippines with eight, Malaysia with five and Taiwan with one.

"Yet, one country has gone much farther and much faster than any other.

"And that's China. China has reclaimed over 2,000 acres, more than all other claimants combined and more than in the entire history of the region. And China did so in only the last 18 months," Carter said.

"It is unclear how much farther China will go. That is why this stretch of water has become the source of tension in the region and front-page news around the world." —Agence France-Presse

I remember a couple of times my chinese friend way back in college told me when discussed about product quality - in the end, China will win. Pretty scary, huh?

What message the US is trying to imply here especially we're dealing some hard and defiant chinese leaders?

^the new commander of US Pacific Command at Pearl Harbor, Admiral Harry Harris Jr, had some choice words against China. Harris criticized China "for a pattern of provocative actions" against its neighbors. He said that, it makes them nervous and increases tension, thus, destabilizing the peace in the region. The other day I read in the Inquirer that a US warship docked in Subic with 30 Filipino - American sailors as part of their combat readiness. Uncle Sam is at it again-- acting the world's policeman. I'm not sure if this is good for us.

Do you think uncle sam actions will give us more good done harm? China is directly rejecting the US demands to stop reclamation works. What's the next course of action do you think the US and PI will do?
Nobody knows what will happen next once this infrastructure is operational... I hope China will not land grab anything close to the surrounding of this artificial facility thereafter, otherwise they will demand next for royalties on our very own Malampaya field.

The two are are just sabre-rattling. Nothing more. The mainlanders know the US economy rely on the Chinese market for their growth. Apple is now the number 1 phone disributor in China. GM number one market is China. Boeing is set to annonce billions woth of orders at the Paris Airshow from local mainland airlines...Anything the US against China will be like shooting itself on the foot...
