I hope the President fires his legal advisers (namely Ochoa and De Mesa) in Malacañang. They're giving him bad advice.

De Lima is the one who should primarily give legal advice to the President to begin with.

Firstly, he should have respected the recommendations of the IIRC since it was no less than the Secretary of Justice who headed the investigation. Having De Mesa meddle into the report and making the adjustments on the sanctions only made the President look weak.

Second, for all the coups experienced by his mother during her term as President, he should have just allowed the judicial process to take its course, or just instruct the Department of Justice to expedite the presentation of their case so the courts can rule. Then he can look into the merits of giving a pardon.

He'd better clean this up and fast coz he can't hang his 6-year term on a 2-month survey which shows that his popularity his still pretty high.

if we give him the benefit of the doubt and look at history:

si FVR, pinag push up ata mga military rebels... look at what happened during his term... nobody knows how the economy could have ended if it weren't for the '97 crisis...

baka naman yan din ang iniisip ng mga bumulong kay PNoy... in a way, marunong naman sila (military) tumanaw ng utang na loob... tignan mo kay FVR.. na pardon sila, walang gulo.... kay Erap... wala din gulo since alaga sila (pinasok talaga ang camp ng MILF at nag litson pa dun)... kay GMA... well.. maaari hindi nakuha yung gusto kaya nag alburuto... aside from the corruption and all... as if naman nung panahon nila FVR / Erap walang corruption... so what made the military take that stance? may gusto na hindi naibigay??

probably ganun din state of mind right now behind this decision.. ibigay ang gusto nila.. to buy peace...

but personally.. hindi dapat... let justice take its course.. sa proseso naman nabigyan sila ng pagkakataon na ilahad yung kanilang side eh... ngayon kapag na abswelto sila.. then so be it... kapag na convict sila... tsaka sya gumawa ng pardon... dun sya mag decide.. siguro, kaya ngayon nila ginawa to, aside from the fact they're trying to head off the judicial process.. mataas pa rating ni PNoy... pag ginawa nila to na mababa na rating nya.. mas mahihirapan sila...

it is also possible na talaga ang may gusto nito ay congress or senate .... since at this point ay walang way para maka porma ang senate (except for a resolution), at least.. kung galing sa Malacanang, then sila lang ang mag approve... then nakuha nila gusto nila.. but they can not initiate... so... pagbigyan ang senate ng Malacanang.. in exchange of passing the budget? passing their "priority bills"?

Tama na matagal na nga ang corruption satin, pero iba kasi tong si GMA ibang level. Id like to believe na talagang napuno tong mga to kaya nag coup. Actually kahit dito sa tsikot dati yung mga thread na panahon ni GMA, halos puro mura at sumpa ang mga post ng mga tao rito patungkol sa kanya

Hindi naman. I'm just saying he's being given bad legal advice. There are other ways to achieve what the President is trying to do legally (and, in my opinion, less controversially).

Take the IIRC recommendations, for example. He could just have allowed the cases to be filed against the people concerned and let them prove their innocence in court. If he was confident that the criminal cases will not prosper anyway, then it'll get dismissed even at the prosecutor's level (maybe in less than 30 days at that).

For the mutineers, he could have just asked the Justice Secretary to stop any further presentation of witnesses or evidence in the case and these get dismissed as well --- by the court.

Thing is, he cannot afford to squander whatever political capital and goodwill he's cultivated by taking actions which give his opponents the chance to pounce on his supposed inexperience, inepetness or weakness...or that of his legal team.

If he can't do away with Ochoa, at least replace De Mesa with a recognized legal luminary. At the very least, they can't say that the President's decision was influenced by a legal lightweight --- or deadweight.
