Napaka tanga nitong si Agarao, nag pa video pa. Well madaming tanga sa congress at mas maraming tangang botante who elect these kind of leaders.

Si Tole kahit anong gawin nyan, walang pagasa manalo. Huwag lang sana mapunta sa PAGASA yang ungoy na yan at maleletse ang weather forecast.

LP may let go of Tolentino

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Francis Tolentino’s dream of becoming a senator may be over.

According to a senior member of the Liberal Party (LP), ranking officials of the ruling party were “seriously considering” dropping Tolentino from the LP senatorial slate amid public protests against the bawdy performance of the ***y dance group Playgirls that he allegedly sponsored during a party event in Laguna province on Thursday.

The show, allegedly Tolentino’s “birthday gift” to Laguna Rep. Benjie Agarao, backfired, with many members of the public denouncing it as insulting to women and demanding an apology from President Aquino, the LP’s titular head.

The show was held at Agarao’s home in Santa Cruz town during which former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas, the LP presidential candidate in next year’s elections, swore in new members of the party.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the MMDA chair’s explanation and actions pertaining to the incident did not satisfy a number of LP members and senior officials.

“We’re not trying to do damage control. We’re just doing what we have to do consistent with our party principles and policies,” the source told the Inquirer.

The source added that the LP would have to “let go” of Tolentino to show its sincerity in upholding its principles, specifically regarding gender sensitivity and respect for women.

Asked if the LP was also considering Tolentino’s unremarkable showing in recent senatorial polls, the source said: “No. What’s more important to us is the candidate’s integrity and commitment to daang matuwid.”

Daang matuwid is the code word for the Aquino administration’s reform program.

The source said Tolentino’s fate would have to be decided by the LP’s national executive council.

“But technically speaking, Tolentino is not yet an LP member, although he is set to join the party in time for the filing of (certificates) of candidacy,” the source said.

    Emcee misinformed

Tolentino has denied sponsoring the Playgirls show, saying the emcee at the event may have been misinformed.

He could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Reporters who sought to speak to him at his MMDA office were told by his staff that he was not there.

“We have not been told where he is,” a staff member said.

But Ruth Cabal, a consultant to Tolentino, said the MMDA chief was attending a “series of meetings.”

The Inquirer’s calls to Tolentino went unanswered.

    LP convention

During its national convention on Wednesday, the LP authorized Roxas to choose his running mate and name eight candidates to complete the party’s senatorial slate.

At the same event, the LP endorsed the run for reelection of Senate President Franklin Drilon and Senators Ralph Recto and Teofisto

    Guingona III.

The party also approved the senatorial bid of resigned Food Security Secretary Francis Pangilinan. With a report from Kristine Felisse Mangunay

Erap backs Tolentino senate bid: ‘Nothing immoral’ in Playgirls act

MANILA Mayor Joseph Estrada has endorsed the senatorial bid of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Francis Tolentino, calling him “a man with unquestionable integrity.”

In an interview on Friday, the former president said Tolentino would be a good lawmaker, as he also cited his being a lawyer and former Tagaytay City mayor. Tolentino served as officer in charge of Tagaytay after the 1986 Edsa Revolution and as mayor from 1995 to 2004.

In Estrada’s view, Tolentino “performed well” as MMDA chief, noting that the job came with many challenges especially with regard to traffic management. “There were a lot of construction projects (causing road congestion). Traffic also worsened because there was an increase in the number of cars yet no additional roads were built.”

Estrada said he, too, wouldn’t be able to solve that problem.

The MMDA chief is the second senatorial aspirant in the 2016 elections to be publicly endorsed by Estrada. On Wednesday, the mayor also expressed his support for Bayan Muna party list Rep. Neri Colmenares.

Estrada put in a good word for Tolentino a day after the latter drew flak over a ***ually suggestive dance number that spiced up a Liberal Party event in Cabuyao, Laguna. An emcee at the program—which was covered by the media and whose audience included children and college students—described the performing group, The Playgirls, as the MMDA chair’s birthday gift to Laguna Rep. Benjie Agarao, the event host.

Tolentino later denied bearing such gifts, saying the emcee was “probably misinformed.”

In a chance interview on Friday, Tolentino thanked Estrada for the endorsement but declined to answer further questions regarding the program in Laguna.

Estrada said the LP would be “losing a good man” if reports prove true that the ruling party would be dropping him because of The Playgirls fiasco.

The mayor said he found “nothing immoral” about it. “They didn’t take off their clothes. That’s the trend now; nothing malicious there. Times have changed a lot.”

Playgirls: Tolentino got us for his brother’s campaign
The group Playgirls, known for lewd performances, names mostly Liberal Party politicians who hired them for their campaigns in 2013

MANILA, Philippines – Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Francis Tolentino is denying links to the controversial “Playgirls,” the female dancers who treated politicians to a performance mimicking ***ual positions.

But a Facebook post by the ***y group from the last elections is haunting the administration's senatorial bet.

In a Facebook post on April 11, 2013, the group of ***y dancers thanked Tolentino “for having Playgirls” at the campaign of his brother, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino, who ran and won as Cavite congressman in the May 2013 elections.

The Playgirls wrote: “Thank you MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino for having PLAYGIRLS at the Campaign of outgoing Mayor of Tagaytay and (sic) now running for Congressman for the 7th District of Cavite, Mayor Bambol Tolentino.”

Then on May 14, 2013, or a day after the last elections, the Playgirls congratulated Tolentino’s brother, Bambol, for winning as congressman of the 7th district of Cavite.

The Playgirls said, “Congratulations to all the politicians we campaigned (sic) this Election 2013. Lahat WINNERS!” (They were all WINNERS!)

The group then posted photos and a list of politicians they claimed to have campaigned for, including Emilio Ramon Ejercito, who won but was later disqualified as Laguna governor.

The Playgirls ended the Facebook post by saying, “Maraming salamat sa tiwala sa PLAYGIRLS!” (Thank you for trusting the PLAYGIRLS!)

Among the clients they listed were:

Emilio Ramon Ejercito as Laguna governor
    Abraham Tolentino as Cavite congressman
Josephine Veronique Lacson Noel as Malabon congresswoman
Cecilio Hernandez as mayor of Rodriguez, Rizal
Cipriano Violago Jr and Edison Veneracion as mayor and vice mayor of San Rafael, Bulacan

Among those who hired the group to dance at their campaign events, 5 are with the Liberal Party: the Tolentino brothers, Hernandez, Violago, and Veneracion.

Rappler is still trying to reach Tolentino for comment as of posting time.

Netizens pointed out the links between the Playgirls and Tolentino’s brother, Bambol, as the MMDA chairman tried to distance himself from this group of dancers.

Tolentino: ‘I was just a guest’

Tolentino on Thursday, October 1, denied that he brought the Playgirls as a “gift” for Laguna 4th District Representative Benjamin Agarao. The Playgirls danced at Agarao’s birthday party, held after the oath-taking of 80 Liberal Party (LP) officials in Agarao’s residence.

The former long-time mayor of Tagaytay City in Cavite, Tolentino said: "Please hear my side of the story about certain materials circulating online: I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancers/singers. The emcee probably got misinformed."

Agarao – who was also linked to the biggest corruption scandal in recent Philippine history – also denied that Tolentino brought the Playgirls.

The standard-bearer of the ruling Liberal Party (LP), Manuel Roxas II, said the LP will investigate the incident.

While the Playgirls claimed to have performed in other campaigns, LP vice chairman and Senate President Franklin Drilon described the Playgirls’ lewd performance in Laguna as a “sorry, isolated case.”

Critics, on the other hand, said the LP should sanction or even kick out Tolentino and Agarao.

The issue erupted a few days before the LP, chaired by President Benigno Aquino III, is expected to confirm that Tolentino is part of its senatorial slate.

The controversy also stirred debates about the propriety of contracting ***y dancers for political campaigns, as well as for other activities. Performances like this, after all, happen as well in events of other political parties.

Based on the group’s Facebook posts for the past few years, the Playgirls have also performed in events of private companies, fiestas, and even a 7th birthday party. – Rappler.com
