The worse side of this country's politics is having a bunch of nincompoops in the senate of which they call it an institution their hardly trying to be respected. One reason why this body should be abolish, aside from total waste of taxpayers money.

Pacquiao brothers to run for Congress, councilor

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Less than two weeks before the filing of certificates of candidacy, two brothers of Sarangani congressman and boxing champ Manny Pacquiao have announced plans to run for local posts in the 2016 polls.

Councilor Rogelio Pacquiao, president of General Santos City's League of Barangay Captains, confirmed he is running for congressman in Sarangani Province.

He said the People's Champ Movement took a while before coming up with the final decision.

"Yon nga lumabas na sa aming pag-uusap na medyo matagal din nakapagdesisyon na napagkasunduan na nga na tayo po ay tatakbo sa pagka-kongresista ng Sarangani kapalit ni Cong. Manny," the councilor said.

The fighting congressman said he supports his brother's decision, noting that Rogelio has already transferred residency to Sarangani.

"Tatakbo siya, Tatakbo siya. 'Yon naman talaga eh kasi doon (Sarangani Province) naman yan siya ipinanganak. Si Ruel na ang pambato natin sa Sarangani Province," Rep. Pacquiao explained.

During the 2013 elections, Rogelio Pacquiao also ran for congressman of South Cotabato's First District but was defeated by incumbent Representative Pedro Acharon Jr.

Meanwhile, another Pacquiao sibling, Kagawad Bobby Pacquiao, is also running for a councilor seat in General Santos City.

Bobby was earlier declared to be part of the People's Champ Movement's line-up last August 31. His wife, Lorelei, is the incumbent barangay captain in Barangay Labangal.

Congressman Pacquiao, meanwhile, is preparing for his annual State of the District Address in Sarangani Province on October 5 where he is expected to formally announce his plans to run for higher office.

Pacquiao recently made it to the Top 12 of Pulse Asia's latest survey among the senatorial aspirants for the 2016 elections.

Vice Governor Jinkee Pacquiao has publicly announced that she is no longer interested in running for any seat, but Pacquiao told ABS-CBN News he is still convincing Jinkee to continue her political career.

Metro Manila Development Authority chair and senatorial hopeful Francis Tolentino denied reports that he brought dancers to a birthday party he attended in Laguna on Thursday.

“I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancer or singer. The emcee probably got misinformed,” Tolentino said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.

The emcee during the event reportedly said the dancers were Tolentino’s “surprise gift” to those who attended the gathering.

***y dancers were seen dancing during the event against a backdrop bearing the name and face of Rep. Benjie Agarao and greetings for his “birthday celebration” and “40th year in service.”

Prior to the party, Tolentino joined former Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II on the oath-taking of 80 of its new members in Laguna on Wednesday.

Tolentino on Tuesday declared that he was running for senator in 2016. He is purportedly one of the members of Liberal Party’s senatorial team in the 2016 elections. Nestor Corrales/RC
