benny010::: For your model yes it is a rwd. Even the previous models that use to be 4WD, rear diffs perform during 4X2 function.

Open diff ang front diff ng 4x4 Trooper.
Advantage? Superior traction vs. RWD. Pero the best pa din ang front and rear diff lock combo. hehehe. Kaso ang mahal. Huhuhu....

kimpOy & Ungas, Wala na-curious lang ako :D A pajero rear axle in banawe only costs 3500. If a starex lsd axle only costs as much id definitely go for it. Unfortunately, di ko alam kung magkano presyo.

benny010::: Hmmm... Kung maalala ko sabi sa akin dati ng mekaniko parang tao at kariton yan. Di ba mas may bwelo pag patulak imbes na pahila ang gagawin sa kariton? I guess tha same basic law of physics apply to RWD and FWD vehicles. Mas hirap daw sa akyatan ng bundok ang FWD, lalo na pag malalaking sasakyan, take for example the MB100 (sample lang po sana walang magagalit  ). May nababalitaan ako hirap daw ito umakyat ng Baguio. Kung patulak naman like Space Gear, then the advantage of the RWD comes in.
Kung city streets naman ang usapan, mas malakas ang hatak ng makina pag pahila. Power from the engine is more direct to the tires, not as to the RWD na dadaan pa ang power sa propeller shaft na mahaba, then diffs, then tires.
Imo, I could only sense that the advantage of FWD comes from automotive factories. Mas mura daw gawin and ang parts nito.

Ungas,
May MB100 kami. Wala namang kahirap hirap umakyat ng bundok. Problem with the MB100 is transmission noise (masyadong magaan ang flywheel ng early models). Its not a design flaw but it can get annoying. So pagdating sa akyatan, a lot of drivers are afraid to rev the engine dahil natatakot sa tunog. Pero if you can bear the noise and watch your tach, you can make the MB100 dance up Kennon Road even with 15 persons (and their luggage) on board.
As for the advantages of FWD, in road driving it equates to greater traction since the engine is sitting on top of the drivewheels. That's why an MB100 can climb slippery ramps backwards without breaking traction.
