don't be so preoccupied with the presence of or absence of a hood imo... i think a hood or apparent crush space won't be effective at all if the vehicle's structure has been poorly designed to withstand a frontal crash...

also, keep in mind that vehicle weights play a large factor... an ES civic (which is top-rated in crash testing) crashing head on at speed against a van like a hiace would be totalled whereas the van wouldn't suffer too badly in comparison

look at the Ford F150... there's ample crush space up front but is one of the worst vehicles you can be in in a 40 mph offset barrier crash, according to IIHS testing... take note this test is an offset frontal crash against a barrier at just 40 mph or 64 kmh

    kuroy,

The Pregio uses a safety system similar to the Besta. Don't be fooled into thinking that the front access flap is already the equivalent of a hood. In fact, it contains nothing but fluid tanks, the jack, and some a/c components. The engine is still under the front seat occupants' butts.

Tama si mbt, malaking factor ang mass. Although in crash tests against barriers trucks generally perform worse than cars, in a real world crash mass would most likely play a huge part. Unless of course you crash into a tree or electric pole.

The Vanette, Town Ace, and the Delica (short) were all sold in the U.S. during the 80's. However, they could not keep up with newer and more stringent safety regulations and were thus pulled from the market.

Forward control vans (e.g. Ssanyong/Daewoo Istana) are still sold in parts of Europe. But still have to meet safety standards for commercial vehicles.

Do you guys remember the old Previa, yung mga surplus ngayon... That's pegged as the MOST DANGEROUS CAR sa US during it's heydey, halos lahat ng angles, 20-30mph fatal ang result ng dummy...

The Previa passed the 'official' NHTSA crash test (hence it was legal for sale in the U.S.).

It, however, scored badly in the more difficult (higher speed, offset crash) tests of the IIHS.

Still, the Previa is safer than most forward control vans available locally.

Btw, the IIHS has been allegedly giving a lot of vehicles bad grades because the tests are paid for the insurance industry. And if your vehicle has a bad grade, they can charge you more for your insurance since it is a 'dangerous' car.

So always take IIHS results with a grain of salt.

Sana may ganitong MB100 sa atin:

Yup, ang tindi ng mga reinforcements ng chassis ng MB100. Pati makina may skidplate (parang SUV).
