March 31st, 2007 03:52 PM #156Hello everyone!
I'm Pol, a newbie here. I'm really glad to know we have things like these - exchange of info, tips, etc. I drive a Hyundai Starex TCI '99 model with 130k km on it with engine overhauled only last December. I noticed that the soot and gum build-up in the intake manifold was coming through the EGR valve. My concern is, is it advisable to disconnect the EGR valve to minimize such build-up? Will it not compromise internal engine components and the like? Please enlighten me. I'd appreciate and be very grateful to any body out there who could help me make a well-informed decision or anybody who has done such to his diesel engine and still enjoying the benefits or regretting the move.
Salamat po!

Sir Pol
Hindi kaya stuck open ang EGR valve ninyo? The valve only opens when it is in peak combustion activity therefore lessening the temp by channeling it to the intake manifold. Check also vacuum swithces or tubes which activate the EGR.

April 4th, 2007 04:48 PM #159EGR valve is still working kaya lang opportunity pa rin yun na makapasok ang exhaust gases and build up gum and soot sa intake manifold over time. Will it eventually lead to engine damage kung there is no lessening of temp during peak combustion? May nabasa kc ako sa internet (I forgot the site, basta reg diesel EGR valve din) na tinatanggal nung iba (taga U.S. o Europe ata yun) to keep their manifold clean and maintain horsepower kaya lang gusto ko makakuha feedback sa mismong nakagawa na nito with their TCI diesel engine sa pinas. Some even install a pyrometer before or after turbo (even both) to monitor EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) while in full boost with no EGR valve to open.

April 4th, 2007 05:14 PM #160BTW, I just had my Hyundai van calibrated yesterday sa BETAN, Makati branch - replaced some worn-out parts then calibrated fuel pump, replaced nozzle tips with zexel brand, cleaned turbo hoses and intercooler, installed back a strainer into the fuel pump, adjusted accelarator cable and idle, etc. I wanted na rin sana na pa carbon clean kaso matagal na raw sila walang detergent dahil naging cost-prohibitive na syang i-transport lalo na by plane. Mahigpit daw masyado sa aviation security. Medyo masakit sa bulsa pa-calibrate pero I'm happy with the result - nawala usok, na restore fully, if not increased, yung low and top-end power. Balak ko pa dyno to get real power-rating on record kaso tsaka na pag may budget na for diesel-tuning or soup up sa autoplus later on siguro, or better yet hanap ako surplus na CRDI and competent mechanic. Baka lang may mahilig din sa inyo sa diesel-tuning, paki share naman nalalaman nyo... Thanks!:newbie:
