Good day guys! I own a 94 L200 4x2. Recently ive been noticing that oil has been coming out of the air intake manifold, diba may hose na plastic na nakakabit sa air cleaner, basta na discover ko yung oil dun sa part na yun. Tinanong ko sa mekaniko kung ano ang problema, his diagnosis is yung piston rings daw needs to be replaced. Anyway, Ive already asked around in banawe 3000+ for orig piston rings set and 1500+ for japan replacement. Yung labor nung mekaniko is 4500 daw, he is saying kasi na para na din daw overhaul yung gagawin niya kaya ganun ka mahal.
I would just want to know your opinions, am i being duped? Tama ba yung diagnosis niya? Yung labor cost niya, reasonable ba? If no, saan ba pwede magpagawa na medyo reasonable ang cost. Lastly, is it ok for me to use replacement parts? siguro in 1 to 2 years bebenta ko na din siguro to. Thanks
BTW ive just recently had a "tap" o "top" overhaul (hindi ko alam kung ano ang spelling) basta may mga pinalitan eh, yung valves ata. Tsaka yung oil seal pinalitan din.

The best way to determine what needs to be done is with the use of a diesel engine compression tester. Is your car consuming oil at an alarming rate? It can also be normal for a little oil to get into the intake plenum; try to check your oil level also.
The piston rings can be one reason for the oil consumption but there are also other factors like engine seals and gaskets.

hindi naman malakas consumo sa oil, pero medyo mausok. san ba pwede magpa compression test?
malamang siguro nagdadagdag ako ng 1 li of oil every two months. Pero I average siguro mga 50km lang a week, dito ko llang sa metro manila ginagamit eh.

laklak,
I think your piston rings are still ok. Once you notice oil in the EXHUAST manifold and your tail pipe is wet with oil thats the time to change the rings and bearings. Kung sa INTAKE manifold lang ang oil baka your air filter needs changing or cleaning. Nasisipsip ng manifold ang oil sa breather hose instead of air from the filter since barado na. Goodluck bro.

ok thanks! Ill try replacing na lang muna yung air filter, mura lang kasi yung filter na yun. yun yung tig P150 kaya baka walang kwenta. Also, may factor din kaya yung crack dun sa rubber hose connecting the airfilter to the intake manifold. Medyo malaking butas na eh, ive been meaning to replace it pero i havent had the time to look for a replacement in banawe. I was thinking kasi of applying epoxy na lang para tipid.

may nakapagsabi sa akin na kapag tinanggal mo daw ang dipstick and merong usok na lumalabas, it means na may diperensiya na sa loob. In my case nung chineck ko meron ngang usok na lumalabas.
