di talaga makatarungan yung Excise Tax na yan. My officemate's rushing yung pagbili niya ng new adventure to beat the deadline. In the coming months panigurado lalangawin ang mga car dealers ng pinas.

In my opinion, the excise tax ruling is the best I've seen in the past several years for the auto industry. It is fair to all car manufacturers, may it be US, European, and Japanese origin. I'm more of a US and Euorpean car lovers rather than a Japanese car fan. With this ruling, the tax is computed based on the price of the car rather than the displacement which is unfair for US models. These are some of the points:

    1. Would you imagine that a Kia Pride is paying taxes while soup-up CrossWind, Revo and Adventures are tax exemplt. The AUV exemption are put into law with the mega taxi in mind. During those times, mega taxi FX would cost 500K. Nowadays, you can't distinguish a Trooper from a CrossWind. Is it fair to Kia Pride?

    2. Also, Japanese cars displacement would go as low as 1.3L while an average US cars is around 3.0L. BUT, the manufacturer's price are almost the same. It is unfair for the US and European firms to come up with a sub 2.0L engine to take advantage of the tax breaks based on engine displacement. Saan sila kukuha ng ganin kaliit na makina. Now, pantay pantay ang laban. Everything is based on price (and the only exception is Suburban - certified 10 seater). It would be easier for us to estimate the lanaded cost as we need only to know the price.

like i said in the other "excise tax" thread... the new law is great and all in principle...

but the tax levels it imposes is absolutely stupid!

I got this via email. I believe this applies to what sir mbt is saying.

Once upon a time in the kingdom of Heaven, God was missing for six days.
Eventually, Michael the Archangel found him, resting on the seventh day.

He inquired of God, "Where have you been?"

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards
through the clouds, "Look, Michael. Look what I've made."

Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?".

"It's a planet," replied God, "and I've put Life on it. I'm going to call
    it
Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance."

    "Balance?" inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing to different parts of earth. "For example, northern
Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth, but cold and harsh
while southern Europe is going to be poor but sunny and pleasant."

"I have made some lands abundant in water and other lands parched deserts."

"This one will be extremely hot, while this one will be very cold and
    covered
    in ice."

The Archangel, impressed by God's work, then pointed to a group of islands
    and said, "What's are those?"

"Ah," said God. "That's the Philippines, the most glorious place on earth.
There are beautiful beaches, rivers, mountains and forests. The people
from the Philippines are going to be handsome, modest, intelligent and
humorous and they are going to be found traveling the world. They will
be extremely sociable, hardworking and high achieving, and they will be
known throughout the world as carriers of peace and love."

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then proclaimed, "What about
balance, God? You said there would be balance."

God replied wisely, "Wait until you see the idiots I put in the
    government."

Hindi kaya masyado lang mataas ang mark-up ng mga SUV and AUV distributors...

Compare the Rav4, Escape, and the XUVi, assuming that the future prices are correct...

    Rav4 (4x4) - 1.3M
    Escape (4x4) - 1.3M
    XUVi - 1.5M

What gives? The Rav4 and Escape currently does not have tax exemption for having 10 seats and they are already slapped with 4x4 tax. But the XUVi will still be priced higher? What gives?

You can't even argue that the build quality of the XUVi is better than the Rav4 and Escape! Much more the features and amenities found in the mini-SUVs.
