    Macky,

imo, i'd call a vehicle exclusive if there are few of them on the road, period... e kaunti lang naman meron sa daan kung kaunti lang yung nabebenta sa dealers... i'd certainly call an aztek exclusive if it sold in really small numbers... with my own definition of exclusivity (and i stand by it), the AMC Hammer is exclusive here, the accord is exclusive here, the camry is exclusive here, the cefiro is exclusive here, and yes the RAV4 would be exclusive here too. the BMW 3-series is arguably exclusive still... however, i don't think a Corolla or a Civic or a Lancer are exclusive vehicles, good vehicles as they are.

i think exclusivity defined as being "limited in availability" or "sold only in the Philippines" is a completely different drift from the sense of exclusivity as used in this thread. A Bentley is available in the philippines, so is a Jaguar XKR, so is a Porsche 911 turbo, so is an M3, so are Ferraris... i think those rides can be called exclusive here and in ANY country...

wala namang kinalaman yung desirability ng vehicle with exclusivity e, imo... but 'exclusivity' (which means "rarity" in this context) can make a car more desirable (in mazdamazda's case when he says a rav4 is better for him because it's more exclusive), or then again, it may not (in the case of the aztek for myself, because i still find it repulsive).

ano pa ba yung magulo? take things into context. when kiper is talking about Suburbans, he's clearly talking about the Suburban in the Philippines, and is there any doubt that Suburbans are exclusive over here? in the US, maybe you'll see Suburbans at every intersection, but that's totally irrelevant as far as kiper's and mazdamazda's points (which apply only to the Philippine/Manila context) are concerned...

OK.... para mas maintindihan mo kung gaano kagulo ang mentality ng Pinoy..... lumabas ka ng Pinas  Ikumpara mo yung mga sinasabi mo sa mga pamumuhay ng mga tao sa labas ng Pinas...... siguro, maguguluhan ka rin sa mentality ng Pinoy (i.e. paano naging maganda para sa mga car manufacturers maging exclusive ang kotseng pang masa? or better yet, bakit naging exclusive yung kotseng ginawa specifically para sa masa?, Exclusivity can only be used or tagged on a car by the car makers themselves. Huwag mong sabihin na mas alam natin ang purpose ng sasakyan more than the manufacturers themselves. As for kiper's post on suburbans, hehehe.... sa yo malinaw sincemost of Philippine-based posters take into consideration na Philippine-based yung site kaya ipagpaumanhin nyo po kung hindi ako sanay mag-post sa country-specific web site.

    mbt,
parang yung debate namin ni happygilmore dun sa 'suggestion on IT school' thread ang kinalalabasan nito..... parehong may point pero magkaiba ng concept. yung unang post ni mazda, tells about car exclusivity. then nilinaw nya na sense of exclusivity lang. yung post mo naman, self-definition mo ng exclusivity. yung sa akin base sa pagkakagawa ng car manufacturer kung exclusive o hindi. tama na siguro na yung kay mazdamazda ang sundin natin this time and sabihin na sense of exclusivity yung binibigay ng sasakyan di ba?

it's quite simple: it's called marketing. if you can't sell a lot, you capitalize on that very aspect to make it a selling point. bakit naging exclusive yung car for the masa? masa ng aling bansa? sa tingin mo ba makakabili ng RAV4 yung lovely masa ni Erap? a 1.3M vehicle becomes a "masa" car now... somehow, i have a difficult time accepting that... by pricing the rav4 at 1.3M, Toyota Motor Phils. knows very well that the rav4 has become an exclusvie vehicle. baka masa ng US yung pinag-uusapan mo... if so, then your argumentation becomes crystal clear to me

you're a pinoy yourself... i'm sure you know the answers (magulo na kung magulo yung pinoy thinking if you think so, but still, i'm sure you know exactly how pinoy culture works). by your logic, a Rolls Royce shouldn't be "malakas ang dating"... which is quite the opposite in reality...

and about exclusivity... (for the last time, i hope)

imo, sense lang naman talaga yung exclusive e. what's the use of a manufacturer-mandated limited edition model if all 1000 of those models end up in one small town? then the owners won't feel like driving exclusive rides no matter how much the manufacturer says so

The RAV4 is an image vehicle for Toyota here. Wala naman silang mga Land Cruisers, etc. dito. Kaya ok lang na hindi siya sales leader.

I was basing my answers to how the car manufacturers themselves are classifying thieir own cars and not by where the car is marketed. Ask the President of TMPI on the classification of the RAV4. I'm sure hindi Pinoy yun kaya sasabihin nya sa yo na compact SUV ang RAV4 whose target audience is the common people or masa. Anyway, got your point bro..... t'was nice exchanging ideas with you 8)

    Macky,

perhaps... but i believe that pricing in particular localities is still the single most powerful determinant of class. anyway, that's just my own humble opinion...

    nice discussing with you, too...
