For members only yung link sir Olive Drab.
Purpose / Coverage: -- The Course is aimed at the first-time 4-wheel
drivers. For the experienced 4-wheel drivers, the Course will be a refresher
course on 4-wheel driving techniques. We recognize that you all have some
experience in 4-wheel driving and have developed your own techniques; the
Course will be an opportunity to share your 4x4 off-road experience.
The Course seeks -- to realize the fullest potential of your Land Rover
vehicle (or other 4x4 vehicle); to make your driving as safe and relaxed as
possible; to ensure that in difficult conditions you get stuck as
infrequently as possible; and, to ensure that your vehicle is exposed to the
minimum of hazards and damage, or to no damage at all.

The Course will cover 4-wheel driving techniques: -- Vehicle Preparation,
Equipment, Geometric limits, Clearance angles, Tires, Loading,
Maneuverability, Operating techniques for tracks, ridges, ditches, slopes,
weak ground, rocks, wading, Self-recovery, Towing out, Snatch towing, Basic
Winching, High/Low transfer case overlap, Engine braking; and more. Expect
the following Training Exercises: -- vehicle check-up; gearbox and transfer
    case; low to high on the move; poor traction; hills; obstacle clearance;
    recovery, convoy driving,....

If you hesitate to bring your 4WD vehicle to Tanay or the trail, I suggest
you still join as a passenger in any of the vehicles joining the Course. You
can park your car at the start of the trail or at the Sampaloc Junction; and
join the trail as a passenger (please make your own arrangements for a
    passenger seat).

    Schedule Saturday June 14, 2003:

5:30am - Assemble for Driver's Briefing at Petron Station, Forest Hills
along Marikina to Infanta Road, Antipolo (5.9 kms from the
    McDonald's
at Masinag Market, Marcos Highway and Sumulong junction).
    6:00am - ETD for Tanay
8 am - ETA at Jungle Base 2, Daraitan, Tanay
    8:30am - Breakfast & Lecture on Off-Road Driving
10:30am - Driving exercises (winch test?)
    12:15pm - Lunch
1 pm - Trail and river crossing
5 pm - ETD for Manila
    7pm - ETA Manila

Lecturers: -- Beeboy Bargas, Jorge Saguinsin, Dale Abenojar and I will form
a panel of lecturers. I am asking Kits Aragon (Philippine distributor of
Warn Winches and Simex Tires) to join the panel. We welcome experienced
volunteers to join the panel of lecturers.

Venue Lecture & Meals: -- The venue is the property of Beeboy Bargas at
Jungle Base 2, around 62 Kms from Masinag, less than 12 Kms from Sampaloc,
Tanay. In case anyone gets lost, directions follow - go past Sampaloc
Junction, Tanay and head for Daraitan River; pass Camp Capinpin; turn left
to Daraitan; turn left to trail going to Jungle Base (around 300 meters
    before Daraitan River).

Trail Options: -- Subject to weather conditions, we will identify a Light
Trail for beginners, (hopefully) suitable for all terrain tires; and, an
Intermediate Trail for the more adventurous. We may have to divide the group
to do the 2 trails, to avoid traffic on the trail. The convoys will meet at
Daraitan River at around 4pm for a briefing on river crossings.

Food: -- Bring your own food, drinking water, ice, cooler, etc. for
breakfast, lunch, tea and snacks; including your own cooking and eating
utensils. Don't forget the garbage bag. Bring pre-cooked meals, or cook it
    yourself.

Things to Bring: -- Land Rover or 4x4 vehicle, duplicate car keys, road map,
tire gauge, tools, spare parts, recovery equipment, tow strap, shackles,
hi-lift jack, winch kit if you have a winch; optional, steel matting,
shovel, pick, axe / saw, thick lumber for your jack's base on soft terrain,
    2-way radio (e.g. Motorola Talk-About), Global Positioning System (GPS);
Satellite Phone; tables / chairs, food, warm clothing, boots, raincoat,
towel, first aid kit, personal medicine, plus lots of patience and sense of
    adventure...

Other reminders: -- Review your vehicle's Owner's Manual and 4WD driving
books; Service your vehicle to ensure road and trail worthiness; Install
wading plugs, if applicable, before the trip (there will be water crossing
exercises); Check tire condition and pressure; Remove step boards / folding
steps, mud flaps, spoilers, and low mounted auxiliary lights; Secure battery
    in its bracket; lower antenna; secure cargo; Eat breakfast before the trip;
    Set your 2-way radio (e.g. Motorola Talk-About) to Channel 10, Sub-Channel 0
(462.6625Mhz). alternate is Channel 9, Sub-Channel 0. Please identify your
Rover Buddy. In the unlikely event of a mechanical breakdown, your Buddy
(not the entire convoy) will be required to assist you with the problem.

Safety is a concern; so, no alcohol please for drivers. Fuel, tire
vulcanizing and air are available at Sampaloc, Tanay. Load fuel BEFORE the
Drivers' Briefing and BE ON TIME.
