if the base ignition timing were adjusted correctly for idling... no, it won't hurt the engine.. but it will hurt your pride and your pocketbook.. your ignition timing will be frozen... your car won't accelerate well, and your gas bill will be more than what it should be, were that advancer working.
some people, however, advance the ignition timing, to make up for its non-functioning advancer. this might cause damage in the long run, as the ignition timing would always be advanced... from idling to high speed.
pa-ayos mo na po... hindi naman ganon ka-mahal. and surplus advancers are a-plenty.. just make sure it's not leaking.
