Hi everyone! I'm scheduled for an oil change this month and I'm currently looking for an oil for my vehicle - 98 Volvo V40 - 53K km. I asked Viking what type of oil they are using on their vehicles, they said Mobil or Canoco 5W50. I went to ACE hardware yesterday to checkout Mobil. While checking it out, I also saw Castrol 10W50.

Between the two oils, what type of oil is perfect for my vehicle (considering the age, KM and climate in the Phil.)?

    Thanks in advance!

I'll go with the "widest" difference between the two numbers.

In that case, 5W50. Though if the price difference between that two is big, 10W50 is still ok for our climate.

Conoco Syncon 5w50 is cheaper than either Mobil or Castrol- you can get it at P1350/gallon. Mobil 1 is overpriced at close to P600/L.

Shell Helix Ultra I think sells at 540+ per liter and is being recommended by Ferrari so I would take a look at this as well. Is it any good?

i too like rockin robin drive a volvo, s40 model though, with 50+km, i assume that 5w50 is also used since i have my oil changed in volvo makati.

question is, would it be an issue if i use 0w40 instead? im planning to have oil changes outside the casa since sobrang mahal sila sumingil

synthetic 5W50 on a pajero is ok. in fact, mitsu uses synthetic 15W50 (mitsu re-branded oil) in the casas.

Dealer's margin is what's missing if you get it from a distributor. Ask Volvo how much they sell the Conoco Syncon 5w50- about P500/L?
Check the Conoco site, Syncon is a full syn but prices vary depending on the distr.

Mobil 1 is cheap in the US, about $24/6x1qt. Since they closed their office locally, they left it to some distributors to import and set prices.

Mobil 5W50 or Castrol 10W50?
