Taking care of a new car

Hi guys! =D I posted before asking for car-buying help- I ended up getting the lancer gls. 1.6 sya pero fuel-efficient naman daw because of the cvt. (Got it Jan 31, right before the new evat, heehee)

Anyway, are there any things I should do with it? I hate it when it gets little scratches, someone suggested that I get a hard clear coat on it daw or something.

Tips? Prevention is better than cure daw.

Take care of it. Don't forget oil changes. And be happy with your new baby.

second, get some chips/pulutan and soda/beer.

third, start reading the detailing thread to find out tons of info for your new baby. i suggest you get a cali duster, good microfiber cloth, quick detail spray, and recommended products on the threads.

last, take pics and post it here.

I've checked out the detailing threads and I'm fairly interested in the waxing stuff, except I don't know about rotaries and stuff. O_O sobrang newbie, haha. I'll probably check out bigberts on wed, wala akong class then. :D

Sorry to say, but you can only do so much in preventing your car from getting scratched - it's really a crazy motoring experience in our country no matter how careful you drive. Even when parked, it can still get minor damages.

Yeah, maybe a 3-step detailing will help, but it won't make your ride immune from acts of man. If you can manage to get through a year of everyday driving without a bad stain, then some feat it will be. Good luck on your Lancer. It should be one of the best 1.6 automatic you can get.

Scratches are a given. Unless you put it in the garage and never use it. Even then, someone will inadvertently brush a cart or washing machine too close and ding! A glass case would be your best bet.

Luckily, minor scratches can be fixed easily.

Keep it clean as well. Visit the detailing thread for more details.

On the mechanical maintenance, just follow the manufacturer's recommended schedule, at least while it's on warranty.

it's gonna be hard to keep it scratch free and dent free. especially for a new car which is dent magnet congrats on your new purchase.

Congrats on your new ride! Scratches will happen after some time as long as you use your car. When it does, don't worry about it too much. Enjoy your ride and enjoy life!

- detail/waxing regularly (i.e. once a month) goes a long way in keeping the shine and minimizes the visible scratches. What color is your ride?
- keep the engine and interior clean
- get a good car wash at least once a week (use the proper materials as others mentioned)
- don't smoke inside the car
- don't put an air freshener
- follow the preventive maintainance schedule
- don't let too many drivers or other people drive your car. As much as possible, kung ikaw lang nag drive then better.

Definitely follow the no smoking and no air freshener rule. If the inside starts to smell, then just air it out so that the AC vents and channels will dry (also good to spray anti-bacterial or anti-mold/mildew products like Lysol deep into the AC). Mildew in AC + airfreshener is not a good combination, IMHO. As a side note, a used cigarette lighter inside the car will decrease your car's secondhand value.

+1...importante talaga ang garahe sa proteksyon ng exterior, kung wala kang garahe, mag-invest ka na lang sa car cover, to protect your car from the sun, bird poops, acid rain, etc. as for the dents and scratches, sorry to say, but it's inevitable, it will happen, but after the first scratch, you won't care as much anymore (is it just me?) . congrats sa new ride.

oh, by the way, make sure you follow the proper brake-in procedure, per your owners manual.

you really can't prevent scratches, just hope that the scratches you get aren't very deep and can be remedied with a little detailing.

Things that you should invest on (ipon muna )
- CCD
- Quick Detailer
- Microtex Microfiber Towels
- Good car shampoo
- Wash Mitt (2 of them)

If you have extra and highly motivated :D buy some waxes, if not you can always have it detailed by a professional

hello, thank you all for the posts. I'm going to upload the pics tomorrow. It's black. :D Hindi ko madrive ngayon kasi wala pa ring plate number. Arg. Dumadami na ang alikabok sa ibabaw nya pero natatakot akong bigla na lang hugasan kasi... baka magasgas. Dirt particles scratching the surface, itim pa naman, kitang-kita. :D
