Lakas sa gas - corolla xe '95 - 2e carb.
Palitan ko sana engine kaso nashort sa budget so fix ko muna..
Anu ba other solutions para matipid sa gas.

Btw, diba temp starts a "C" then pag umangat dire-diretso na 'to middle diba? Well, based on my exp. w/ my other car. Eto iba, from cold start matagal umangat yung temp sa gitna. 30mins na 1/4 temp parin.

    Thanks.

try mo change oil, tune up and clean carb with carb cleaner baka makatulong sa FC.

Bakit ka magchange engine? FC lang ba o palitin na ang makina?

pede ko lang po malaman kung ano ang basis mo at nasabi mong malakas sa gas? do you measure from full tank (to the brim)? kasi kung fuel gauge lang ang basehan natin, it will be inaccurate as all fuel gauges are.

How many kilometers are you getting? when i was using one, normal sa xe ang 8 to 9 kms/lit sa city driving (metro manila) and around 14 to 15 sa highway.

if you are getting less than this, try the following:

    1. have a compression test. kung may butas na ang makina, natural na lalakas sa gas.
    2. as the previous poster said, have a tune up, change oil, carb clean

regarding your temp problem, hindi nga normal ang tagal ng pagtaas ng temp gauge mo. it's possible na you have a busted thermostat or baka wala ka ng thermostat. that will also contribute to your having high gas consumption. dahil ang makina hindi nya nare reach ang optimal operating temp, kaya hindi nya nabu burn efficiently ang gas. happened to me also. when i put in a thermostat on my ride, tumipid sa gas.

    Ano consumption mo?

I had a Toyota XE for 9 years. It's 96 model and I sold it last year.

The consumption was Ok, 9-10 km/li - city driving.

Kagaya ng sinabi ni Asus700, it's probably mostly the thermostat. As long as your engine is running cold, it's not running efficiently. If you're the original owner and you haven't removed the thermostat, it's possible that it's rusted open. Change it, and your consumption should improve dramatically. Also, cleaning your carb won't hurt.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

CHanged oil, tuned up, carb cleaned (last year ata). Why change? Kasi nababagalan ako. Meron naman matulin na matipid diba. Hehe.

Yes orig owner. Haven't checked the thermostat yet. Pero pagsira yun diba dapat parating sarado? Anyway, still with or without thermostart yun temp gauge should be halfway around 5-10mins. Dati ganun yun.

Consumption ko - 9-10 km/L city, ++ for highway. Mas luma pa yun Civic ko matipid.

Haven't tried compression test, san ba meron nun? How do i check if the engine has 'butas'? "Butas" in what way?

Thermostat, if present but not working properly will stay open regardless of the coolant temperature. Ideally, it should be closed until it reaches the optimum operating temp.

9km/L to 10km/L city driving sounds normal (1.6L 16V engine) if not a bit better than average. Even for a 1.3L engine, the consumption seems ok.

Compression test i believe involves a pressure measuring device (i don't know the name) that you put into where the sparkplugs are and cranking the engine to see how much pressure is generated on each cylinder. A leak naturally would register a lower pressure.

why not try I/H/E mods first kung nababagalan ka?

I'm confused with thermostat - pagsira diba laging sarado w/c causes overheat? San meron compression test?

not worth it for a 1.3 engine based from opinion of others as well as those whom i already asked and tried it.

ask ko lang kung ok pa ang clutch/tranny mo?
baka nandyan ang diperensya sa mahinang hatak ng tsikot mo?

It can be stuck open or closed. Both cause inefficiency and hence, higher fuel consumption.

Not worth for a 1.3? Well if that's what you think, you should know that little things can go a long way. If you install a new thermostat and fill up with the right coolant mixture, your fuel economy should return to normal and so does your engine temperature.

I'll have the thermostat checked. The "not worth it" part is the IHE that was suggested. What else should i check for fuel inefficiency?

    Driving habits?

I remember me and my brother had the same car (94 Corolla XEs) then and we had a trip to Baguio. We both started with full tanks of gas and by the time we arrived at our destination, I had a half tank of gas left while he still had a freakn 3/4 left! Although i had 4 passengers compared to his 3, I don't think that 1 person could account for that consumption discrepancy. All I know is that compared to him, I had a leaded right foot.

Trust us... mukhang thermostat lang yun problem mo.

As said, it can be stuck open or stuck closed. I have the same problem on my Hilander, it's stuck fully open, and it takes forever for the coolant temperature to rise.

Same with my AD Resort pickup... I suspect the previous owner removed the thermostat, and it takes forever to warm up. A cold engine makes for terrible fuel efficiency, and the pickup is a definite gas guzzler on short trips because of this.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Minsan ko lang gamitin pag coding. Lady driven ever since matipid 'to ngayon lang nagkanda-letse-letse. Pag ang auto hindi ikaw mismo nag-maintain masisira. Learned my lesson.

Even if the orig thermostat is still there, papalitan mo na. Mura lang naman po iyon.

TAkas gas
