It is fixable but depends on what is wrong with the lighter socket.

First thing to check is the fuse.

Have you checked the fuse yet? ... I doubt if you even looked at it yet.

Anyway, next problems would be:
-contact points (inside socket) are corroded/rusted/missing/misaligned.
-wiring inside the dash (between the fusebox & socket) has come loose.
