January 12th, 2006 04:12 PM #1Hi guys! I need you advice regarding my problem (for almost 10 months now) with the knocking sound coming from the rack & pinion. My ride is a Honda City 98.
One auto specialist has diagnosed that the knocking sound is coming from the rack & pinion. Unfortunately, their suppliers can not provide a replacement/surplus for the defective items.
Here are the items:
Steering rack assembly
Cylinder end
Valve sub-assembly
CASA's diagnosis is really a rack&pinion problem. Their total price for these items is P22,266 including installation and wheel alignment, to be done within 2-3 days.
Servitek's quoted price is P31,625 for the materials and labor, to be done in 1 day.
Will there be future problems if I delay the repair for another 10 months or so because of budget constraint?
Thank you for your advice.

Sa casa ka na...
I think the price is more than reasonable if they're chanigng the whole assembly na... Kasi sa car ko 30K yung steering rack palang wala pang ibang parts and labor so that's reasonable na...
How did that get damaged btw?
Pag ganyan kalalaki gastos, I'd go for casa dahil pwede mong balikan for backjob and may warranty ka sa parts.
Ang hirap sa case mo kasi what if nawalang ka ng control sa steering if the problem is really bad...
Sigurado ka di bushing lang or something to do with the steering column?
Not an expert sa subject matter though, but I'd look into the cheaper, easy-to-wear parts muna before pointing to such a main component.

January 12th, 2006 04:44 PM #3I am already the third owner of this car so hindi ko alam kung merong masamang nangyari sa kanila. Lumabas yung knocking sound after I changed my shocks through Zee. Hindi rin makita ni Zee everytime pa-check ko sa kanila ang problem.
Cruven has inspected the bushings and wala silang makitang palitin dun. Pinukpok nila yung tie-rod (?) sa right side, heard na hindi 'bou' ang sound compared sa left side. Yung paliting part na kailangan nila (rack&pinion drive ata) hindi daw available sa suppliers nila.
When I inquired about this r&p drive sa casa, hindi daw nila alam ito.
Will there be future problems if I delay the repair?
Thanks again.

January 13th, 2006 03:30 PM #4Another simple thing to be checked before going to the Big Bucks repair....Question : Have you noticed an abnormal " Backlash " ( Steering wheel play ) on your steering wheel ? Do you feel that the knocking sound is radiating on your steering wheel.?...If you do, ....Check the U-joint ,from your steering columm to the base of your rack and pinion shaft..( If it is equiped with a u-joint or cross joint )...it could be worn down....
