It could be the spooling of the the turbo - parang whistle

nope, it doesn't have VGT turbo. Iba ang technology ng Turbo nila (much more less efficient). Considering their 2.5 can only pump out 102hp. A 2.2L VGT turbo can do 153Hp (~190hp ecu- maxxed).

sa 2.5d4d facotry rated 102hp ...ordinary turbo lng same as other toyota turbo charger ct20..as for the 3.0L d4d it is equipped with a vgt turbo ... giving it a factory rated 163hp..

170hp (220hp ecu-maxxed) can be easily produced by a 2.5L CRDI VGT (KIA Sorento)

as for the sound effect,

that's what I like about the d4d, the turbo sound effect is loud. and it whistles early compared to older jdm rides like hilux surf, prado, land cruiser, etc... meaning, d4d is more responsive and starts immediately with it's very thin high note sound as you step on the gas.

older jdm rides takes little later to sound and the pitch starts from lower note, but the sound is more similar to a typical jet airlines. very nice sound but too soft to notice...

when it comes to power, it's a different story...

I would like to try that blow off valve... ricey but beneficial...

thank you po sa info's niyo now i know kasi po nung ginamit namin nung girlfriend ko yung fortuner nila dun ko lang na notice when stepping the gas i hear a whistle,,and ang bilis po ng pick up nung fortuner,,hehehe kaya lang po i notice medyo malakas siya sa diesel like our pajero,,

it's the turbine spooling... small turbine lang though...

Yes, EFi na for the vvTi (GAS) variant.
