May 28th, 2007 03:15 AM #1Hello to everyone. I need help with my car's transmission. Kumakalas yung first gear niya. All the other gears are fine. I got a second opinion from another mechanic and ganon din ang sabi na wala raw problema sa synchronizers. Since nakababa na rin lang yung transmission at medyo marami na ring mileage yung kotse ko ay pinapalitan ko na lang lahat ng parts sa loob ng transmission ng japan surplus (cost me 3K) hoping that the problem will be fixed pero kumakalas pa rin siya sa first gear. Ano kaya problema ng transmission ko? Help.

Anong kumakalas? It pops out of first gear? Might be a bent shift-fork (although not knowing your vehicle, I can't say for sure).
Sayang yun... if nothing was wrong with your gears or synchros, you shouldn't have swapped them out.
What car?
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Thanks for the advise. My car is a Nissan Sentra LEC 98 model. 90K na yung mileage niya. Pag nag shift ako sa first gear at nagbigay ng gas, nag-jujump yung gear to neutral. Pero pag hinahawakan ko yung shift knob ay napipigilan naman siya. Wala rin daw tama yung shift fork according sa mechanic.

Sounds like a damaged 1st gear. You will need to replace the 1/2 gear.
I had a similar problem where the manual tranny will not stay in 3rd gear. They replaced the 3/4 gear. This will require the tranny to be pulled down and openned up if you opt to replace the broken gear. The alternative is to get a surplus tranny and swap that in.

Sir GH, pinapalitan ko na ng surplus yung mga gears (isang buong assembly) pero ganoon pa rin. Meron ba kayong mai-rerecommend na transmission specialist? I'm already thinking of replacing the entire transmission dahil parang walang mekanikong makapagsabi kung ano ba talaga sira. Thanks ulit sa advise.

May 29th, 2007 05:37 AM #9fastlane: bago ka magjaump sa conclussion icheck mo muna kung anong type ng transmission linkage equipped ang kotse mo kasi merong two types ang linkage nito,,,,,,,extrnal shift rod and internal shift rail,,,,,pareho lang ito ng function but they different parts and palagay ko gears has nothing to do with problem (grinding noise or jump out of gear, first gear only) and sabi mo pag pinigilan mo yung shift lever ay nawawala ang problema, marahil ay may kinalaman ito sa shift linkage mechanism, ipacheck mo itong mga sumusunod:
for external shift rod:
=1st and 2nd shift rod could be bent or its hole thru shift fork lever could be oversized or its pin.
=shift lever mechanism to 1st and 2nd shift rod its hole for 1st gear might be worn out or the adjustable swivel might be worn ou to.
for internal shift rail:
=1st and second shift gate it could be lose or worn out.
=shift rail could be worn or weak detent spring.
for both:
=shift lock for 1st gear could be missing.
=improperly adjusted shift linkage for 1st and 2nd gear.
sana makatulong ito sa iyo para di ka makagastos ng malaki.
