Hi to all car enthusiasts! I am turning to your forum out of desperation and hope someone can help me.

I brought my dad's pajero (model 1993 imported) to Rapide-Alabang (suki ng dad ko eh). There was a leak in the injector and the pajero was shaking violently and usok was coming out of the cylinder head.

    This is what they did:
    1) checked what/where the leak was - from one of the injectors
    2) they removed the injector and found that thread was worn out
    3) they decided to buy surplus injector and see if it will work
    4) even with the surplus, mey leak pa rin

    So...

    5) they decided to have that injector hole on the cylinder head re-tapped/re-treaded
    6) after re-tapping, the surplus injector was put back but there was still singaw.

    So finally...

    7) they decided that we have to replace the entire cylinder head with a surplus costing about P7,000.

The pajero's engine make I think is 4D56.

    My question:

Is there any alternative other than replacing the cylinder head? Was it correct to have the injector hole re-tapped? Rapide says pajero injectors come in one size so there is no inecjtor that will fit the re-tapped hole. They said we don't have to pay for the re-tap.

Sorry guys if my narration may be long and wrong. I do not know much about automobiles. But I'm glad Bigfeather referred me to this site. I think I will hang around more so I can learn more.

    Thanks in advance.

    Vince

    Hey Vince welcome to tsikot.com!

Stick around, our diesel gurus are still asleep as of this time.

Sorry, i'm not that knowledgeable sa diesel engines.

    Vince,

First of all look for another shop , Rapide alam ko pang preno lang

Anyway loose thread na yung injector hole....mukhang bibili ka na nga nang cylinder head....(di ako bilib sa re tapping)

Go to a respectable diesel engine shop....serach the threads here maraming recommended....i go to ATI at the back of Citimotors pasong tamo....kabisado nila 4D56...

Mahirap atang i-retap yung injector thread. Consider that this is directly on top and is part of the combustion chamber. With diesels compressing at 20:1 + talagang sisingaw iyan.

I think, long term, replacing the head is the best solution.
