is it ok for the water level inside the coolant reservoir to change? when the engine warms up, hot water enters the reservoir. when the fans kick in, the water goes down. when the car is not in use, the water level is low then starts to rise again as the engine warms up. i observed that this follows a regular cycle. there is no leak and the temp is at the middle all the time. is this normal or not?

it is normal that the level goes up when the engine is hot, when the pressure cap opens to release radiator pressure to the coolant reservoir and then taking in fresh water to cool the radiator. as you have noticed the max level indicator of the reservoir is placed only 3/4 of the full reservoir volume, you should maintain this level, the remaining space of the reservoir is for the steam that will be released by the radiator going out thru the reservoir release tube

tanong ko na rin mga ser, pano po kung nag overflow yung reservoir mo tapos walang ng laman yung radiator at ayaw bumalik yung tubig.. could this be a bad rad cap? or a headgasket problem? tnx

could be hindi pressurized yun return hose mo.. may air leak somewhere.

kasi since the cap was able to open up and draws the water to the reservoir naman in the first place.. so yun return lang may problema.

its like sipping a straw with holes on the side... you cant get liquid back up.

if it keeps going out then it is probably a headgasket problem. but the rad cap is a cheap experiment naman to see if it works.

there are also other ways to tell if the headgasket is blown na.
