yes, high mileage cars have bigger clearances on the ring-cylinder wall, and valve stem-valve guide areas which could cause leaks to the combustion chambers that resulting carbon build-up in that area.
use the thicker grade if you want synthetics or better yet, use the dino (mineral) oil and just replace frequently.
