Question from a lady driver.
Can you give me a "checklist" on what and how to maintain my new car? It's an Altis.
Can you help? Thanks.

Hello there. Congratulations on your purchase. Manual ba or automatic?
Kung maintenance tips din lang, I suggest na huwag mo munang ihataw yung tsikot mo until your 1,000km periodic maintenance service (PMS). Meaning, don't go over 60kph and don't over-rev your engine. Hindi pa kasi naa-adjust ang valves niyan. You may hear about stories na hinahataw naman ng mga taga-planta yung oto bago ipadala sa showroom kaya ok lang isagad. The thing is, they do those things under controlled conditions, kaya pwede silang mag-perform ng adjustments pagkatapos. Once the car reaches your hands at inihataw mo agad sa kalye, ibang usapan na 'yan. Better safe than sorry.
Tapos just follow yung mga scheduled maintenance intervals as recommended by the casa (1,000, then 5,000, then 10,000kms and so on) at least for the duration of your warranty. Um, any DIY maintenance chores you can do, such as coolant replacement, washer replacement, battery top-up will also help prolong the life of your car.

Hi. Thanks Bogeyman. Yep Altis 1.6G..
Kasi like for my old car.. I had somebody check the Air Filter tapos spray lang kako..
Can you help again..
thanks.
masyadong technical eh.. kakatamad magbasa ng manual.. sorry.. lady nga eh.. hehehe
in my experience...
every 5K:
- replace oil
- replace oil filter
- check air filter, replace if dirty
- check brake pad, replace if necessary
- check brake fluid, top off if necessary
- check belt condition, replace if necessary
every 10K
- replace spark plugs
- drain & replace radiator water & coolant.
- check wiper blades, replace if necessary
every 20K
- drain & replace brake fluid
- drain & replace tranny fluid
- replace fuel filter
leigh861: 1st 1000 and 5000 PMS pagawa mo sa casa, for warranty purposes...
Follow the checklist in the manual. Meron dun yung may letter I for inspect, R for replace tapos may table ng km reading... upload ko nga yung Excel ko. OC ako eh. hehe
For newly purchased brand new car have it service per schedule on CASA so as not to voids your declared warranty (3 yrs and 100K km ?).
- Check proper tire pressure at least once a monthOriginally Posted by buknoy2002
- Rotate tires at every oil change
- Change gear oil every 20,000kms.
i have a checklist from mitsubishi motors. i follow that. pero usually every 5K, change oil and oil filter, tune-up if necessary. check also air filter, clean if dirty. if very dirty, replace with a new one. every 15K, change spark plugs and follow 5K PMS.
guys, when you have your oil changed, do you use flushing oil? or no na, since you're going to use the same oil naman..? para saan ba ang power flushing oil (from caltex).
and do you change your gear oil (tranny oil)? coz ours 16yrs na ang car namin and i couldnt recall having our tranny oil being changed. any inputs? thanks!
I change gear oil as the manual says. I also change coolant every 2 years.
Originally Posted by zechs
Yung sa Mazda before. Ngayon hindi na.
Would you like to share the odometer reading? Normally kasi if brandnew your dealer will remind you when to return the car for PMS and they'll do that for the whole warranty period. Just wondering, 1.6G or 1.6E?? kasi phased-out na 1.6G since 2004 right?Originally Posted by leigh861
neway, the maintenance schedule is in the user's manual of the car. depending on the age or km reading. It shows which parts/fluids or components to replace, inspect or clean/service. Hope this helps??
