The long travel, we figure, may be designed to get the least problems with the little ones. We left at 4 AM and Din, our 8 year old, just slept until 9 AM, and we reached Vigan by 10 AM, disembarked at McDo.
On the next trip, we plan to leave 12 MN, so the kids will sleep longer until maybe 6 or 8 AM, and the trip would have been completed already by the time they wake up.
We had a portable DVD though (plugged into lighter socket thru inverter), and that helped a lot in keeing the kids quite.
Big pillows also made the rear comfy like a little bed.

As for us, we are interested to do this also...

The 5th Dodo Ayuyao Sampaguita Rally hits the road on December 3

Automobile Association Philippines (AAP), as part of its 75th Year Anniversary celebrations, announces the staging of this year's Dodo Ayuyao Sampaguita Rally which is bound to blaze the roads of the North in Tarlac province on December 3, 2005 starting at a very early flag-off from Manila.

Named after the late AAP President and Dean of Philippine Motorsports, the event is a competitive type of car rallying that requires only “showroom stock” vehicles wherein participants will have to put emphasis not much on speed but more on timing, precision, accuracy and teamwork.

The team for this type of rally is usually composed of a driver, a navigator and another passenger to calculate the travel time, speed and distance (TSD). Through proper coordination, they will strive to be “at the right place and at the right time all the time” to get the least number of demerits to win the rally.

This 250-kilometer annual run owes its success in the previous years to its regular participants which includes AAP members, rally enthusiasts, media people, car manufacturers, and car club members.

The Sampaguita Rally is the Philippines' adaptation of the Tulip Rally format, which originated from the Tulip Rally of Holland where it was first used. Before that, rally directions were given in paragraph format, which means speed reading is also a necessary skill for you to win the competition. In the Rally of Holland, directional symbols were used in lieu of words. From then on, directional symbols were called “tulip”symbols because of their approximation to the flower. Since there was no indigenous tulips in the Philippines, rally organizers during the 70's opted to use the national flower “Sampaguita” to make the event sound more Filipino.

This year's rally is expected to attract new participants with the inclusion of a Treasure Hunt. Designed to add more fun and excitement, the Treasure Hunt will go with the event to be participated in by the rallyists themselves and/or plainly by “treasure hunters” only. Details of which shall be discussed in the DASR briefing scheduled on November 17 & 24, 2005 at the AAP office.

For more details regarding the 5th Dodo Ayuyao Sampaguita Rally, please contact the AAP Marketing Team at 723-0816 / 705-1906, look for Christine, Sandy or Vanessa or email us at christine.jeanjaquet*aap.org.ph.
