I have owned a stock xtrail 2.0 4x2 for almost 8 months... I sold it recently... The build and quality are superb... The torque is very powerful... The handling is also superb... It's like a bump car... you really have the full control of the steering wheel. The problem is the Fuel Consumption 4.5kml in city driving and 6-7 in longdrive... It's like owning an Expedition... Maintenance is like any other car... Cheap and easy to maintain... The other problem is the suspension... It's very rough compared with the crv 2nd gen... I felt that my xtrail was so light that it's so bumpy... You can hear the noise from the ground... The other problem is the seats... it can only seat 5... It really feels like a car with an suv feel... But the Seats are comfortable though... The aircon infront is also trademark nissan cool... but the problem is in the rear passenger, it does not circulate well in the rear. That's just my comment with my former X-Trail

    I have the 2006 2.0Li 4x2 X-Trail.

    Just some observations:

I got the vehicle with the expectation that it won't consume gas like a sedan. To expect it to do that in city driving is, well, unrealistic so those looking to switch from their compact sedans should probably get another sedan. In fact, unless its a diesel engine-based SUV, I have yet to see a compact SUV do better than the FC of the X-Trail at 7 km/li city driving. For highway (NLEX/SLEX), I get up to 10-11 km/li.

Ride comfort is above-average with the seats. Probably the best in its class. The drive is pretty smooth at high speeds and the power steering system is well modulated in feel.

Ride height is higher than a sedan, but then, its not intended for fording floods higher than your knee, either. Suffice it to say that it makes you confident enough to tackle flood waters that are just slightly higher than curb level.

Pretty solid car, if you don't mind the minor niggles.

Things that I hate are the easily-scratched plastic finish, but, if you're not finicky, it should be no issue. The aircon's micro-fiber filter needs cleaning every so often which requires you to bring in the vehicle to your aircon specialist or to your dealer for servicing/cleaning. I have a different expereince from glockrecoil in that none of my rear passengers ever complained of the aircon not circulating well enough at the back.

Oh, and then there's the manufacturer-supplied jack. I once suffered a flat and had to change the tire. So, out comes the jack (scissor-type). To my annoyance and amusement, there was no surface underneath the car for the jack to latch on securely so that I could raise the X-Trail. I had to do trial-and-error in trying to find a spot close to the wheel so that I could use the jack.

The glove compartment seems to refuse to close and the darn thing keeps falling open. I solved this by locking it with the key. The hassle is that if you need to get a copy of your registration, you'd have to remove the key from the ignition to unlock the glove compartment.

Ever tried using the cigarette lighter outlet to charge your phone? Use the outlet hidden in the compartment next to the center instrument cluster. Using the cigarette lighter outlet would cause your park lights to blink intermittently until you unplug your charger.

Oh, and despite several trips to the casa, the toping thing occurs every so often. Siguro dahil na rin sa quality of the gas (I use premiere unleaded from TOTAL, so no toping ever since).

We have an 05 Xtrail. In 4 years of ownership, here are my observations:

*used to have decent mileage, 7-8km/l city driving. lately 6km/l. Tried V-power and it seems to prefer this fuel.
*alternator pulley is producing a whirring sound. your nissan casa would want to replace the whole alternator but you can get a replacement pulley outside at a cheaper cost.
*throttle body/MAF has to be cleaned every 40,000kms otherwise you'll be experience idling problems.

    i own 2004 xtrail 2.0 AT

since 2006-07 i had a idling problem na bumabalik balik ang sakit until now. my idling problem - bumabagsak to 800rpm or lower at neutral (or naka-brake). at one time namatay makina ko because of this.

    solutions na hindi umubra:
    1. chemical cleaner (nilagay sa gasoline)
    2. clean throttle chamber
    3. replace air filter (it worked for sometime pero dapat bang laging palitan)
    4. use high octane gasoline like petron v-power (ang mahal!)

now i need to change to change alternator, pulley daw ang problem.

malas ba or ganyan talaga ang nissan x trail?

had the same problem before, mang bok told me to turn up the aircon thermostal (i had it in the lowest setting).

we have a green (tulad ng font ko) 04 nissan xtrail 200x, a 4wd version.fuel consumption around 8km/l city 10-12km/l highway.batak kasi makina lagi sa highway dumadaan.hehe.ride height very ok di masyado mataas, di masyado mababa.di nako naglagay ng stepboard kasi ma-defeat purpose nya of being a 4wd. may button sya na auto for 4wd, that means automatic sya na 4wd pag kailangan at 2wd kung di kailangan. i often use the auto mode pag umuulan. sobra ganda ng handling. you will never feel the slippery road kasi naka-engage ung 4wd nya pag madulas daan. stability is superb di na kelangan ng traction control. very panoramic din ang view kasi ang laki ng mga bintana.bumpy lang talaga sa likod considering its height and wagon type sya..
overall im very satisfied with its performance. i feel lucky din i got the rare 2.0l 4wd version na wala na ngayon.

FC of our 3 yr old 250x Xtrail is still at 7km/l pure city driving, 10 for long drives.
ride comfort is good, especially with 4wd on.

A/C is the classic Nissan coldness and circulation issues sa likod was never an issue with the front seats angled right.. i think

glove compartment issues mentioned by altis 6453 are the same for us.. pero not really bothersome for me kasi wala naman kami laging nilalagay or kinukuha dun kaya nakalock lang.

torque is very impressive. no issues kahit jampacked loob with really heavy luggage over rough terrain. really nice ride.

i have a 2004 model 4x2. its a pretty decent suv i must say, the handling, ride comfort and all. not until it was victimized by the wrath of ondoy. now it's totally the opposite. im specially having problems with my transmission. nawawalan ng power nung una while im driving and you have to restart the engine again. i had it serviced by nissan and they changed the acceleration censor. it was good thereafter but after a few weeks, same old problem arose. went back to nissan and they changed an ignition coil(which they took from one of the xtrails they are servicing, as told by the technician). it went back to normal until ive experienced the problem again. this time, seemed like ang hirap mag shift nung gear. minsan from first gear, ayaw nang mag shift. so i have to stop and restart it all over again. had it checked by nissan and was told there's something wrong with the transmission control module. :-( no stocks available yet as a lot of xtrails daw have the same predicament. so i pulled out my car muna from them. one thing that pisses me off now is that i was told hindi nila ginalaw ung oto but the handling is totally different compared to what i was experiencing prior to having it checked the last time by nissan. hirap na ang engine at walang hatak na yung xtrail. bigla nalang nawala ung back up censor, the lights for the transmission, among others. i mean, these are small details na im used to before i have my car checked by nissan the last time and now, its all gone. it all adds up to the whole problem.

im actually planning to dish it out na for good. im not happy with the way things are going with my xtrail, and the service am getting from nissan. dont get me wrong, i superbly adore this car because its so nice to drive and all, but things are slowly changing. am no expert in car parts or whatever, but i know that a lo has to be done for my xtrail to go back to its former glory.
