i understand that the logic behind driving it slow (break in) is that there are rough surfaces in the moving parts of the old cast iron engines that need to be polished up first

Your correct sir. IMO wala din namang mawawala if we will still do the old school style of breaking in. Besides, CASA still requires change oil after running 1000 kms.

I read somewhere that it is very important to break in engine because of the following reason:

Break in is important. All engine bearings and cylinders, etc. must wear evenly and proper. Also, piston rings need to seat. Not following proper break in procedures could result in premature engine/parts failure.

In addition we need to be gentle with the engine so it will last longer so racing it often does more harm than good. Modern engines break in relatively quickly, often 1000km. Older designs took longer as the tolerances were not as precise. The first oil change is often a lot sooner than later ones as during break in rough edges from manufacturing will be worn off and end up in the oil.

After back-reading almost all of this 151-paged informative, cool and 'makulit' thread, here's my first post.

Nakakatuwa ang sharing ng experiences (good/bad), information, opinions - very lively ang sharing sa thread na ito.

Got our GL Elite (Blue) last December 21 at Nissan North EDSA. We're sending it in this Friday for its 1000Km PMS. Will spend the time at the casa to speak with their service advisor/mechanic and our SA to better acquaint me with the GL, tips to get a good FC, good break-in practice, maintenance, etc.

Dumami pa sana tayo! (pero 'wag sana kasing dami ng Avanza, Vios )

    Cheers fellow GL owners!

    - Erick

Medyo madugo yung word na foundation . Maki ride on ako sa suggestion mo sir - Association of Grand Livina Auto Group ( parang Agila Group - kaya lang association na, group pa = redundant ). Pwede rin Auto Grand LivinA - Philippines ( Agila Philippines ). Buti pa suggest kayo ng pangalan at botohan tayo he he.

Guys may nararamdaman ba kayo na parang nagvivibrate malapit sa preno at accelerator pag medyo rough ang kalsada? Ngayon ko lang kasi nararamdaman 1 year na GL ko.
