February 10th, 2009 10:46 AM #1222Nice add ons, but with the current economic crisis all over us, I think people will think twice before purchasing all those accessories just for their GL. 60 thousand is a whole lot of money nowadays to spend on accessories IMHO. In addition nagtaas na ang GL by 10 thou kaya the high end will cost around 978 thousand while the entry level around 858 thousound. I think to be competitive, car manufacturers should think of ways to lower the cost of ownership of cars (with the help of the Gov't of course), or put promos such as freebees instead of adding accessories such as these (which adds to the cost) to make it attractive to consumers. Kahit maganda pa ang car offerings kung di naman ganun kadali ang cost of ownership as in affordable, it will be very difficult to sell. I heard from an agent that selling a car nowadays is very difficult compared to last year since buyers now are in a wait and see mode and are holding to their hard earned money and will not spend it as easily just to buy a car worth almost a million bucks.

AFAIK, Livina x-gear is a 5 seater sport variant of GL having a 1.6 liter engine displacement. I think I have seen an x-gear in youtube.
*Mikko David: WOW! Ganda naman ng dressed-up na GL (medyo di nga lang bagay yung antenna) kaya lang mukhang mabigat yung add na 60K, but as usual, when it comes from casa ay medyo mahal ang mga accessories. It would be better, kung available sa labas, na GL owner na ang bumili ng accessory sa labas. Teka, san ba available yung body kit?
My advice to other GL owners, prioritize nyo yung additional breaklights kung may budget kayo. Yup, around 350 pesos lang from Goldrich, Banawe, near Quezon Ave. Maliit lang kasi yung existing breaklight ng GL kaya mas maganda and safe na magdagdag ng breaklights, anyway may option naman yung rear light assembly for another lamp. Actually, madali lang ikabit yun, puede nga na DIY.
1 week to go....

This is true. Even before pa, customers are more likely to think twice before letting go of their hard earned money. But promos like these are usually targeted to buyers who loan from the bank and pay monthly installments (which make up a sizable portion of NMPI's customer profile). In this case, an additional 60K from the retail price of both the mid and high end versions will only have to be broken down into the monthly payments of the customer. Not too big an impact.
The reason I said it's a nice time to buy the Limited Edition option is because if you add the costs of each individual accessory based on their retail prices, it will come out more expensive than 60K. Ergo, you get a "subsidized" price for all the accessories or in buyers' terms - a discount. Sabihin nating 20K ang bodykits sa friendly neighborhood fiberglass shop, tires and wheels siguro mga 30K, that's 50K na agad. Eh may window visors pa, sidemirror lamps, wing, floormats, alarm pa.. kahit di na yung mga chrome bits (na di ko type). And it has NMPI warranty and installation pa. San ka pa?
As all marketing and sales plans go, the end result is to sell units. And I think this is one good option for car buyers out there.

February 13th, 2009 09:58 AM #1230Nicely said sir Mikko. The GL is indeed an eye catcher when its fully loaded will of of these accessories. I agree that the additional accessories (with factory warranty) won't necessarily hurt your wallet if you were to pay extra in your installment payments, as in you actually loaned the car from the bank. In addition, the 60k for the entire package is indeed a good buy if you have the extra money to pay for it rather than pay for it one at a time and have it installed later.
But nowadays we are living in trying times. Everyday in the news, you read and hear hundreds of people loosing their jobs and some are not even the contracted ones, but those who are regular staffs who have worked there for 15 to 20 years. Its now a fact that we are no longer assured of job security till we retire. We can be axed anytime when required and when company deems fit in order to survive and ride any crisis. If you are one of the unlucky ones who lost his job and is paying monthly installments for his newly purchased car, what will you do? If you can't pay the monthly installments soon, you will be forced to return the car to the bank since legally it is still not yours. Luckily my wife and I still have jobs to pay for our debts but up to when I don't know.
Now with this current global financial crisis, there is also this constant worry on how long this will go on or when this will actually end. I hope and pray that this won't be for long but the events going on around us shows a bleak picture of things to come. Only recently, when gas prices went almost 60 pesos per liter there were fewer cars on the road and people started taking public transportation. This clearly shows that in times of crisis, people start to control their spending habits and save as much as possible. Spending is prioritized to things more important. I think this is what is happening now and thinking of purchasing a car now is mostly less prioritized than it was a year ago. A few of my friends backed out purchasing a GL just because of the crisis and won't risk going into debt with banks just to get one now.
