From the top of my mind:

    Advantage:
    very capable off-roader
    matibay
    classic design

    Disadvantage:
hard to find one in good condition
interior can get worn out easily (especially kung ginawang driver-back-up car)
rust on 1995 and lower models

Things to look at when buying:
    - 4x4 gear (if functional and no strange noises)
    - interior
    - engine emissions (the Safari is not a smoke belcher)
    - power when going up inclines

Later models including the '99s have:
Cup holders in the center console
    Automatic climate control system
    Dual aircon as standard
    Third brake lamp
    Different injection pump (inline type?)

    Executive series:
    ES badges
    Cabin air purifier
Availability of black body color (not previously available)
    Leatherette seat covers
    Faux wood trim

Thanks fo the info OTEP. I think 1996 models and later are better.

It makes a 110bhp? Somewhere in that area. So better get used to watching small Honda's whiz by as if you're just sitting still. hehehe.

As a back up vehicle, it will not keep up if your principal is riding in a V8 full size sport ute (e.g. Suburban, Expedition, Hummer, etc.).

But if you don't expect much speed out of it, it's quite pleasing to drive.

Thanks OTEP. I might sleep while driving on the way and wake up somewhere along the road shoulder. Hehehehe......I might as well consider another vehicle. BTW, my present unit is KIA carnival 2000 model and it runs like hell. No way for Nissan Patrol to catch up if it's only 110bhp more or less.

Thanks again for the info. God bless your heart.....

Top speed of the Patrol Safari is anywhere between 145kph to 165kph depending on the injection pump type and condition.

HP rating is around 115hp; better than a 4D56 (99hp) Pajero and around 10hp shy of the 4M40 Pajero if you're comparing. Don't expect much speed if you're looking at keeping up with the Fortuner, Monty Sport, Everest and Alterra crowd. But this baby will shine when the going gets though and is a good companion on long drives. So it really depends on what you're looking for.

If you want more acceleration, another option to look at would be an Everest or an LC80 (if you can find someone willing to sell his at a good price).

I drive a newer Patrol but my dream car is still a 2000 model black Executive series. hehehe.

You might want to do a TD42 turbo swap for more power. But the stock Safari engine is adequate for me. Of course, I used to drive an MB100 which was also not particularly fast.

Yep, when the going gets tough, none of the newer Asian SUV's can touch this baby. Solid axles, rear diff lock, raised air intake, dual oil filters, dual battery ready, long travel coil springs. What a monster.

Ohhhh....I see. Now this time I get a clearer understanding on the performance of the Nissan Patrol safari Series. Thanks guys.

Sir OTEP, you mention the 2000 model executive safari series. Is that the new model? Any idea of the cost of the 2000 model? Just curious, how far does the safari goes in 1 liter of diesel to # of km?

Thanks Vinj. Thanks OTEP. Tnx Tnx Tnx
