F800S
F800ST
BMW has created a fourth motorcycle series, with the introduction of the F 800. The line, made up of the sporting F 800 S and the touring-oriented F 800 ST, will bridge the gap between the F 650 single-cylinder bikes and the flat-twin models.
The engine is an all-new Parallel-Twin model with 4-valve technology, displacing 798 cc. The 2-cylinder powerplant puts out 85 hp at 8,000 rpm and 65 lbs.ft of torque peaking at 5,800. It was developed by BMW Motorrad in cooperation with Austrian specialist Bombardier-Rotax GmbH and is built in the Rotax plant in Austria. The bike is assembled in Berlin.
Weighing in at just 450 lbs. (thanks to an aluminum frame), both compact F 800s are able to accelerate to 100 km/h in about three and half seconds, and reach speeds in excess of 200 km/h. Power is delivered to the rear wheel by a toothed belt and controlled by a 6-speed gearbox. Anti-lock brakes are optional.
The suspension and running gear is designed for a high standard of tracking stability and optimum handling, yet seating comfort remains key for both pilot and passenger. The fuel tank is located under the seat to lower the bike's centre of gravity.
