I just noticed this. As I was looking outside the window of my office, high atop Makati, i've see numerous open parking lots full of cars.

It was a sea of White, Black and Silver. Not much variation of colors. You would see a spot of blue or beige, but you'll notice the absence of yellow, green, orange, and red. I mean real red, not the dark burgendy type of red that from afar looks like any dark color.

There are also probably 20 shades of gray as well.

It's the car manufacturers that dictates the colors that they sell. Most Filipino car buyers will be aged 35 and above.

In the US the market is about even between young and not so young so the car selection colors is bigger. Plus the hassle of color change also hampers variety of choices

I'm guessing...there must be a lot of fleet cars? Where dad works, everyone picks their favorite color for their patsikot...silver. Even the top dogs look uniform in a convoy. Reason? I guess that color doesn't sell quite well for Toyota.

On the other hand, most prefer silver because it is easy to maintain... Dust cannot be readily recognized in a silver car....

^Good point! Economic considerations...not having to wash the fleet; being parked under the sun, rain, hail, dust, typhoons, and whatnot. Also environmentally-friendly.

BTW, laging napupuri ang erpat ko dahil maganda at matulin daw yung service nya...always cleaned and maintained by us. Kaya naaawa kami sa ibang auto sa fleet. Nabubulok na lang...tsk tsk tsk.

This is so true! In the 90s car companies offered Blue, Red and Green, now it's so monochromatic.

    Good observation bro. Mguy.

But it used to be that there are a lot of color choices for our vehicles... I remember a Korean who was visiting our company some years ago commented how colorful our vehicles are...He was saying that in Korea (then), the only colors are black and white....

All of my previous cars are various shades of red. Even our other vehicles then.... But right now, the 2 vehicles we purchased some months ago, one is black black and the other is white. Not because we prefer these colors, but we don't have any real choice with the manufacturers....It's a good thing I kept my green van...

. . . or maybe, the colors became bland and boring due to wear and torture from being frequently washed by acid rains in the Metro

In the US, most cars also come in the same gray, black, white, beige range.

It's demographics. Most car buyers (anywhere) are older, and older buyers are more conservative with color choices.

The drab range of colors available reflects the fact that you've got to be rich (and usually, older) to afford a car in the Philippines. Look at what's happened to limited editionc ars sold in other colors (aside from pearlescent white)... they don't sell well. The only limited edition color models that sell okay are the cheaper cars... this would be the Mazda2, Jazz, QQ, Picanto, etcetera. Even the Vios sells mostly in silver and white.

Personally, I prefer silver cars. They are more classy and not too loud.
Loud colors are mostly for the younger croud. I'm 34 so I think I'm getting old.

I would get a white or a black if I had more time to detail my cars.

I remember back in college (90's), most people would paint their cars yellow, pink, green and blue. I think it was cool back then. But IMO, unless your car is a Lambo, then I'd stick with basic colors.

I'm nowhere near old but I still prefer black, silver or white as my car color of choice. Oh and red too, but not the bright red, but the dark red kind of thing.

Either my taste is for old people or it's just that most cars look better in those colors. Of course, offer me a Genesis Coupe and I'd snap it up in it's bright yellow form.

20 shades of gray? Hehe.. A year later, a book was publicized titled 50 shades of grey.

No offense sa mga gray color lover, but it looks dull to me.

Taxi! (smiley)

Other colors, I admire pag alaga sa punas at makintab!

    The Philippines is not alone.

Most manufacturers will not sell anything but gray, white, beige and black.

Neutral colors are easiest to sell. If a buyer comes in and the only car on the lot is acid green, what are the chances he will drive off in that? Given that he's (most likely) not a ten year old carrying an Avengers lunchbox?

white is still the world's most popular car color based on ppg industries' annual automotive color popularity and trend study.

According to ppg, white topped the ranking with 22 percent, followed by silver (20%), black (19%), gray (12%), red (9%), natural (8%), blue (7%), green (2%), and other colors (1%).

"color is one of the first characteristics noticed in product design, and it is increasingly being used in everyday items, from cell phones to large appliances, based largely on automotive trends," said ppg color styling manager for automotive original equipment manufacturer coating jane harrington. "the palette being developed for the automotive segment continues to be influenced by culture, nature, fashion, interior design, color popularity and new pigment technology."

for the asia pacific region, ppg's study revealed that silver and white are the most popular at 23 percent each, followed by black (19%), natural (10%), red (9%), gray (8%), blue (7%), and green (1%).

Other regions that also had white as their top car color are north america at 21 percent and europe at 23 percent.
